Depends on what you are doing with the rifle and where you are using it
Where I grew up we always did 25 yards because you generally can't see beyond that in the woods or the hills.
Plus we all had iron sites
you could zero at 25 and make adjustments for the other distances.
25 is about the distance where you will be shooting most small creatures. It is also the most likely distance you can use for natural point of aim. You should be able to hit anything within 25 yards just by pointing at it.Why 25 and not 50?

But another interesting tidbit is that the zero for 25 and 50 are exactly the same.22lr has a pretty straight trajectory but it loses steam at about 75 yards. The chart below has a 20, 25, and 30 yard zero. I would just zero at 25 yards. Most ranges you'll go to have this distance. You'll be within an inch and a half all the way from point blank to 75 yards.
