Thought this thread was about the State Fair? So yeah, now, this year, we serfs would be arrested and permits pulled. September and after its a felony for us serfs. Won't even be able to take my new lady to dinner without that threat. Not now. The person with the permit will just get turned away.

I think the screening device will travel with the fair .
It’s ok, man. There’s no threat unless you’re a retired cop. Or author. Or just somebody, anybody or even nobody special. But there’s laws now to protect us. It’s all we need. And muskets. Don’t forget your muskets!Thought this thread was about the State Fair? So yeah, now, this year, we serfs would be arrested and permits pulled. September and after its a felony for us serfs. There's a huge difference between "controlling the situation" and being an authoritarian drunk on his own power, with an ego to match. The contempt of cop thing has more to it than you understand. The cop often has to control the situation, solve it and move on. He is often under time pressures that the general public doesn’t know or understand.
So what about people who move to NY from free states ?Thank you for understanding that you got lost in the fray.
Your debate question is a little too open for a simple answer. An off duty should be able to carry in the same places as on duty even if it means myself as a retired guy can not. From a practical standpoint, how could the public tell if they are on or off duty . Then just, it doesn’t make sense that 5 minutes ago, that guy could carry there and will be able to again in 16 hours.
Look how stupid the new law is with security guards. Technically if the security guard shows up to work one minute early, they might be committing a felony.
Note, that I did separate off duty from retired.
Without the exception in the new law I couldn’t visit where I used to work and would have to move out of state. Retired cops would be forced to move and take our pensions with us. But even before the new law there are places I can’t carry anymore like a school. Do I like it? No. Do I think it’s stupid, yes. But it would be different if I was just off duty.
NJ let’s it retired officers carry with the same ability as on duty officers but they must qualify to the same standards as active cops twice a year. New York doesn’t give that option.
The magazine option? We get to keep the “ high” capacity magazines that we used while active ( 12 twelve months anyway ). That was a exception pushed by the unions and an “ excuse” was used to get it. Officers were trained by the government to use those magazines and ingrained into muscle memory. The same way retired guys run toward gun shots. The legislature was told that because it was put into officer’s muscle memory that retired officers would behave as if they had a full magazine and might get killed if they didn’t fix it. That might be true in some cases. So I am happy to be able to use that limited exception but I am against that limitation for the general public. But that excuse won’t work for people who have been limited to 10 round magazines since 1994( yes, I know the exceptions but we are talking about what is going on in their minds)
As far as LEOSA, I enjoy using it but I’m for national reciprocity as well.
Are there places I think retired guys should be allowed to carry where regular permit holders can’t ? Yes, but it’s more like I would like to visit where I used to work. It’s not open to the public in certain areas but that’s more to do with very specific areas. Maybe allow carry with an invitation sort of thing.
Does that clear up my position.
That’s not the point. Some of you don’t recognize that there is a substantially higher threat for LEOs and former LEOs. And that’s why the lawmakers made the exception. It’s ok, man. There’s no threat unless you’re a retired cop. Or author. Or just somebody, anybody or even nobody special. But there’s laws now to protect us. It’s all we need. And muskets. Don’t forget your muskets!
yep. Absolutely. I’m not against standard magazines. The difference is the guilt trip. The NYS state government via proxy trained NYS police to use those magazines so they have some responsibility to that muscle memory. The unions used that to guilt them into it. If it makes you feel better Out of state retired cops don’t get that exception either. So what about people who move to NY from free states ?
Don't they have the same "muscle memory" problem with reduced capacity magazines as retired officers ?
Following confusion, off-duty police will be allowed to carry at State Fair
Fair officials say the policy has not changed.spectrumlocalnews.com
Lmfao there was no confusion..
The unions did their thing and the special people got their way..
And yes anyone that can exploit their privileges go for it, it's the ones that only care about that and think they are more deserving than others, are the ones that can fuck off
Yes, we don’t recognize that LEOs and retired LEOs face a substantially higher threat than, say, pizza delivery boys. That’s not the point. Some of you don’t recognize that there is a substantially higher threat for LEOs and former LEOs. And that’s why the lawmakers made the exception.
It wasn’t a bribe in the sense to get LEOs to enforce this stupid new law. It was to be able to retain and be able to recruit LEOs in the future. Not to enforce this particular law. Even “non gun “ cops won’t take the job if they are disarmed including those who choose not to be armed off duty all the time.
Just recognize that there is a higher threat in general. It doesn’t mean that your right to defend yourself should be diminished.

If the pizza delivery person is also off duty, how often are they attacked for being a pizza boy?Yes, we don’t recognize that LEOs and retired LEOs face a substantially higher threat than, say, pizza delivery boys.
Do you have any data that suggests otherwise ?
Depending on what neighborhood the pizza guy lives in, he's probably in more danger sitting at home than most cops are when on duty.If the pizza delivery person is also off duty, how often are they attacked for being a pizza boy?
And a lot of cops moonlight as pizza delivery because their pay doesn’t make ends meet until they reach top pay.
The job hours are flexible enough to work around the police schedule.
Depending on what neighborhood the pizza guy lives in, he's probably in more danger sitting at home than most cops are when on duty.
Again, a lot of rookie cops are pizza delivery people, come from dangerous neighborhoods etc etc.Depending on what neighborhood the pizza guy lives in, he's probably in more danger sitting at home than most cops are when on duty.

Pizza delivery cars rarely are damaged for just being pizza delivery vehicles . Cops personal vehicles ( off duty/retired /active) are often vandalized if the car can be identified as a cop’s car including removal lug nuts, flatting of tires, breaking of windows, and other damages.
Pizza delivery people rarely have their children threatened.

I personally know cops who had been followed home and told “ we know where you live”, approach them officer’s kid at school. Retired cops attacked out of the blue from someone they arrested years earlier and the retiree didn’t even remember that arrest from years ago. I have run into people I have arrested while on vacation in another state.
I have people I arrested in the beginning of my career just getting out now-just to give you an idea of how dangerous some of them are.
And some “ civilians “ have a credible and specific threat over their heads too but they are rare . And I agree with the SCOTUS decision about permits . But not to recognize that threat over LEOs is disingenuous.

Criminals avoid us like the plague? And they attack us too just because of what we do or did . That antidotal search was limited to attacks off duty at at the officer’s home. There are thousands more where it was just the officer’s car vandalized, property damaged etc. Why do I know this? I know hundreds of incidents. It’s that common. You are not special.
When you are doing your job, criminals avoid you like the plague.
The pizza delivery guy is looked at as a walking ATM.
I know you can't let the "specialness" go because your identity is so heavily invested in it, but the facts and plain statistics clearly refute it. Cops are not an especially high risk group for crime or retaliation.
The guy who shuts off the cable TV for non payment is more at risk.
News articles like that are anecdotes. The plural of which is not data. We all know that which incidents make the news are cherry picked for many reasons, and accurately portraying the real world is the bottom of that list.
The bottom line is that being a cop in general is going to make you less likely to be attacked at random. If some mugger sees 2 middle class guys in the street, and wants to mug one, how do you think recognizing one as a cop is going to influence that decision LOL.
That’s not true. I have no issues when I’m in free states with open carry or concealed.@Truebeliever why do you dislike citizens out in public carrying a sidearm and doing nothing with it while carrying it because they have no permission from the Government ?

If you want me to compare on duty attacks on police officers , there are over 60,000 in documented assaults on officers acting in their official capacity in just 2020. ( FBI stats)That doesn’t include attacks on off duty officers if they weren’t already taking some police action already . Yes, a lot are by criminals trying to get away, like this:
But attempted murder of a police officer is listed as an assault as well like this:
but a lot are unwarranted attacks.
Look at this one. The criminals seem really afraid-lol
