OP is right. Was at my local Tops yesterday and canned veggie section was about half empty. Tops brand had the fullest section. I don't know why the other brands were scarce but I doubt there's a run on sauerkraut and succotash.
Depends on your definition of "go bad"."Never"?
I'm not saying I dont believe that but, that sounds dubious to me.

Its gotta go rancid eventually doesn't it? I do know canned goods last a looking time though. Good for preps. How long would a cam of Spaghetti Os last I wonder? In SHTF a can of Chef Boyardee + a blowtorch = a hot meal!Properly canned food doesn't go bad as long as the can stays sealed, it other words no dents or rust. The contents will lose taste texture and some nutritional value over the years but that depends on the food itself.
Yeah I would just consider any long term stored food as calories. You have to pay attention to micronutrients (vitamins) though. Scurvy used to be a thing, though we’ve grown comfortable. Especially with kids too, they can get rickets pretty easily.Depends on your definition of "go bad".
It's completely sterile, so it is unlikely to become poisonous, but I am sure the quality and nutritional value will drop over time.
I imagine after 100 years you may have a hard time telling the beans from the corn.
Sorry, kinda forgot all about this thread. The pasta in canned goods will eventually turn mushy and as the texture breaks down so will the color and flavor and the nutritional value, but that takes years. My wife and I have been home canning for awhile now and found that somethings just don't can well at all like hot dogs! But venison cans very well and actually gets even more tender if that possible. Damn that's making me hungry, BBQ venison samich! MMM!Its gotta go rancid eventually doesn't it? I do know canned goods last a looking time though. Good for preps. I have been looking at getting some prep food to compliment my Mountain House buckets. I think canned goods are a good way to go. I have been researching thus recently. Apparently canned goods really can last nearly indefinitely. The contents might blend together in a mush like you say but it will not have spoiled. And I have watched a few Spam recipes on YouTube that focus on how to make the stuff less disgusting to eat. Spam fries for example. And say what you will it is easy to stack away some ravioli or what not and you can eat it cold.Sorry, kinda forgot all about this thread. If you want some real good info on the life of canned goods or home canning check out the site survivalist boards, I'd post a link but
I have one of the Mountain House bucket things.I never really was a bachelor, went from living at home and going to HS to married and going to work and a baby all before I turned 19! So much for the swinging bachelor life! Have you bought any of the MT. House #10 cans? Shelf life of 20-30 years and once rehydrated taste texture calorie and nutritional value is still good. Believe it or not the best place to order it from is Walmart online, same with Augason Farms products.
I've been married so long I do the same thing! Hell I let the dog out while in my shorts and once many years ago locked myself out, in the rain with just tighty whities on damn dog!And I have lived the bachelor life for so long I doesn't even occur to me to close the bathroom door when using it. Nor to get dressed till I actually need to go outside.

Unfortunately it is tasty enough that it frequently shifts from "emergency rations" role to the "I am too lazy to go out for food today, crack the bucket!" And I am needing to get another bucket soon.

Perhaps I have lived as a bachelor for too long?
I've found acidic foods containing Tomatoes
.......That was kinda horrifying. What the hell happened to those banana flakes?!
I used to save MRE's from my Nat Guard days for exactly that reason!I have one of the Mountain House bucket things.
