I am seriously considering this. I know you are on Long Island. Which FFL did the work? I ask because others may be hesitant to transfer something like this, but he would most likely do it.
I have a Bushnell 1x32 that I was planning to put on it. The problem is that the top of the receiver has an 11mm dovetail. I put a rail adapter on it and mounted the Bushnell, but it sits way too high. I need a red dot that mounts low.
This project was in the back of my mind for quite a while. I got a Rock Island 22TCM bolt action rifle and had it rebarreled to 9mm using an AR barrel. There was additional work done to the bolt face and feed ramp. A faux suppressor was added to give it an SBR look. It was then cerrakoted...
Coming from a guy who neutered and sold some great pieces to avoid registration, I wouldn't be able to bring myself to harm this one. Let someone in a free state enjoy it.
I went to Cornell. For gym freshman year, I took trap and skeet and hunter safety. I kept a shotgun in my apartment senior year (bought at Woolworth on the commons). I wasn't the only gun guy on campus.
The problem is that I would not have any kind of residence there where I would feel comfortable leaving firearms. I would be living on Long Island and only occasionally going there. So the option of having hi caps and unicorn killing bayonet lugs is not practical anyway.
I looked into PA. They have their own issues there. Hunting regs are different and close to NYC is polluted with NYC escapees with their liberal views. After doing the math, I decided to stick with upstate NYC.
Most plots I have seen have road frontage and electricity at the road. If there isn't a cabin, buying a mobile home and dropping it there is an option. I think the big question is how far I want to drive. Farther is cheaper.
I'm sorry. Did I say that out loud? I live in Suffolk County on Long Island and have lived on LI all my life except for when I went to college in Ithaca. Due to family encumbrances, I don't foresee leaving this communist sinkhole in the near future.
I am contemplating getting some land upstate...
