I was curious to see how it looks with the scope. I have a 1-6x scope to put on but was thinking of a red dot instead.

If you are referring to the bolt carrier being different vs a standard AR, you can use any upper and bolt and the SCR proprietary bolt carrier and you are good to go.

It is a threaded barrel with a pinned thread protector.

Here is mine mocked up. Not sure if I will just use this barrel I had laying around or get a stainless fluted barrel.

I picked up my Monte Carlo lower two hours ago. I am impressed. Waiting for my upper parts and bolt catch to show up in the mail, but I snagged mine from Brownells with the 11% off coupon. I can’t wait to build this one.

I have the cosmoline stripped from everything except the barreled action. That will be tomorrow. I used mineral spirits on everything. Just curious what I can "wipe down" the wood with or should I just let it air dry to get rid of the smell.

I just picked mine up. Prominus was not lying. It looks like it came right from the factory. I know what everything else is, except what looks like a cigar container. I am way too happy right now but only enough time to throw it in the safe.

After 13 years in LE, my wife still wants nothing to do with them. Thankfully I have a son.

I am not passing it up. I don't mind paying a little extra over something of unknown condition. Luckily, I can have an AK but I want something I can give to my son without having to modify it.

To an SKS novice, is this something I should not pass up? I have been interested in getting something in 7.62 and a rifle I share with my son when the time arises. I know little about them but am very intrigued.

Why not fix the magazine and then get another lower that you keep in PA that is not fixed?

Duh. I now remember reading that thread. I think I will try the EDT and get some more ammo.

I already have an ALG ACT in one rifle and a crappy "mil-spec" parts kit trigger in the other. I can either get another ACT, or bump up to a nicer drop-in unit. I want to limit myself to $150. What do you recommend for HD and range? I do not want to spend $200+ as nice as they may be.
