Moving from NYC -> Suffolk, pistol permit transfer?

Debating a permanent move out to Suffolk County and wondering what will happen to my pistol permit. Has anybody had any luck transferring over a premises permit from NYC to Suffolk recently? My understanding as per PL 400 and what I've read online is that I write the NYPD police commissioner a...

Guess I'm the odd one out, I was able to get my hands on an Acro but have never tried an RMR. I have it setup on my Glock 19 Gen 4 MOS with Trijicon Suppressor height night sights. I will say, to my inexperienced eyes, the Trijicon sights seem a bit too high, pic of my setup for reference..

So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

Oh for sure. Hell why would they care, $30-$50 for a transfer that might sink the whole business? Can't say I'd do it either.
  10. S

So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

Right, as far as I can see from the statute, the state would have to redefine manufacture to mean changing out parts. Then charge someone under PL 265.10: Of course there's no definition for manufacture, but the deface/gunsmith definitions seem to show a difference between manufacturing...

So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

You are correct. I find it hard to believe that FFLs did such diligence to prove that assault weapon M1 Carbines had parts that were all 50 years old.
  12. S

So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

It appears that the FFL transfers it to you and then you register it within 30 days of the transfer into the state as per PL 400.16(a). I haven't done so myself but know of someone who did that with a 50 year old+ M1 Carbine. Building isn't a bad idea, I'll probably do so after I get an AR-10...
  13. S

So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

The New York State Police's position is that the rifle must remain in its original configuration with all 50 year old parts. I called FFLs after speaking to the NYSP and they told me they'd have to have Colt verify that all the parts were at least 50 years old. That seems to be the hard part...

So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

I spoke to a few FFLs by me and they seemed to think that the exception only pertains to M1 Carbines and not AR-15s.. one even told me to call the NYSP hotline, well, I did. I called the NYSP SAFE Act hotline yesterday they confirmed that all assault weapons manufactured prior to 50 years ago...

So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

Yes that's what it seems like to me too. From the formerly quoted excerpt from PL 400... If the legislature wanted to ban C&R assault weapons created 50 years before the SAFE Act passed they should have used similar language.
  17. S

So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

I don't have a C&R but was looking into it for these purchases, although... That's the conclusion of my research from looking at various threads, since the law only exempts importers and dealers from background checks on each purchase and has no exemption for "collectors" you'd still have to...
  18. S

So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

Ya the cost sucks but it seems Colt SP1s are inching closer to under the $2k mark. My holdup is finding an FFL, the ones I've called downstate seem to think C&R AR-15s would still need to be featureless or fixed.. clearly the law does not say that.

So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

From PL 265: Only assault weapons that (h) applies to can not be transferred within the state. (h) applies to all weapons defined in paragraph (e) or (f), paragraph (g) exempts rifles that fall under exemption (vi) from these restrictions. C&R assault weapons fall outside of these restrictions...

So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

I've heard of C&R assault weapons being registered as late as last summer, my question was mainly if anybody had heard of post 1963 C&R weapons that had been through this process. It seems the open question is what "current date" means in this exception to the assault weapon definition of PL...

Thorsden stocks break when dropped. You can't get a proper grip with a spur/grip wrap. Extended NY Trigger Guards are out of stock. Getting a high end barrel pinned and welded makes me sick. So what's the deal with C&R Colt SP1s?

Now that Colt SP1s are 50 years old, can we get them transferred and registered as per the SAFE Act? I was recently informed that one can still register C&R assault weapons. I'd purchase a late 1960s Colt SP1 if I could keep all the features. Does anybody have more concrete info if FFLs are...

Man Becomes Enraged At Convenience Store, Comes Back With Shotgun; What’s Your Exit Plan?

Yes the draw looks bad in hindsight because we clearly see the customer walking away as the gun comes out, but it looks like he begins the draw when the customer is throwing the shit on the counter at him and the customer's hand comes within a foot of his face. Wow that’s pretty awesome. I’m planning on using a fixed compmag on a future build but I hate how it’s the same height as a 30 round mag which makes shooting prone difficult. An underutilized option for SAFE compliance is the exception carved out for any rifle which can not accept a magazine...

Stun guns / Tasers now LEGAL in NY

Well the judge says PL 265.01 doesn't apply to them so for now they are legal. The legislature would have to pass a new law to make them illegal. I don't know much about the public perception of stun guns but I'd imagine legislators will move quickly to class them under PL 400.
