Yea , I'm in that mode right now for acquisitions. 1911 / M1 Garand / 1911/ repeat.

No 1911 4" Barrels in the safe yet , just can't have that.

I have the Ruger SR1911 commander model that is the only 4.25" 1911 I have. I do have a couple of 3.5" 1911s a Kimber ultra Cary II and a Colt 1991 slide/ para P13 frame build. Everything else is a 5" er.

I voted for the Springfield because that's what I have and has been a great pistol. There's also Remington's in your price range. I have yet to shoot one but just from handling them they present better than the Kimber's. If you want kind of a novelty 1911 there's a new company that makes them here in NY. This is on my short list. I already own a 5" and 3" Kimber. The Stainless TLE comes in at a little over a grand but with the the features it includes I think it is worth it.

I Hadn't thought of the Rugers. Always had good luck with their products. Not a fan of SS though , found one of these caught my eye , can't find out much info or reviews though. Ruger+Commander+.45+Navy+Seals+4.25+8+1

have a Colt and a Sig 1911, I dont think the Colt has a match barrel but the Sig does and its well under $1000.
Sig has many models which includes both Sig shaped Slides and Traditional 1911 (round top) shaped slides. i prefer the Traditional Slide.

I like the whole full size .45 Springfield line with the exception of the ones with the plastic fiber front sights.

PS: 8 round Chip McCormick Power Mags with bump plates.

Almost bought the Springer Ro but , I just don't like the fiber optic front sight..ugh. They belong on compound bows not pistols...so the search goes on.

Personally, I'm partial to the Government size 1911, with one exception. The Dan Wesson Valor V-Bob. But that's about double your "other" price range. So worth it though.

As I was shooting my Remington SR-1 last night, a buddy gave me a free mag. I loaded it and it worked perfectly. That is when it hit me, Just another plus point for the 1911. A 1911 mag is a mag is mag is a mag.

Springer loaded A1 is looking like the winner, I can only find it in a 5" though.
Trijicons front and rear , match barrel & nice black finish. My R1 carry only came with the front one and was more $.

I like my original 1911, tight and accurate. I will never sell it. One of my kids has a SIG P227, .45ACP and what a pleasure to shoot, excellent ergonomics.

I know that the OP stated under 1k, but if a 1911 addict imo quality trumps quantity. Look at a Dan Wesson, they start around $1300 but well worth it. Spending more than the Dan Wesson starts to become diminishing returns, again imo.
