I’m trying to come up with a standard method for measuring the consistency of guns and ammo. I decided to measuring the average group of 5 groups of 5 rounds each at 25 yards. I decided to 25 yards so my open sights rifles can also be measured.
Groups are measured center-to-center.
Today I compared four 40 grain Target loads.
CCI Standard Velocity Lead Round Nose
Aguila Super-Extra Standard Velocity Lead Bullet
Federal American Eagle Solid
CCI Mini-Mag Copper-Plated Round Nose
The test rifle is the CZ 455 Varmint
Of the four, the CCI SV faired best. The real surprise was the Agulia. I picked up 1,000 rounds for $80 and it performs strongly in the CZ.
The weakest performer was CCI mini-mags. This was also expected. These high-velocity mini-mag round nose bullets are meant for tactical applications.
The round stickers are 3/4-inch. This equivalent to a 30-inch target at 1,000 yards
