Is a .50 bmg rifle legal in NYS? Single shot bolt action.
And can fire the bolt directly into your neck and nearly kill you.Yes. But every year one dude keeps trying to ban them. But you can own them currently.
Hell there are a few companies that make single shot and bolt action uppers that fit on a standard ar15 lower (cost is about $1,500ish)

When I get my 50, I'm going Barrett or nothing.
Take a trip to Outpost Armory in Tennessee a little south of Nashville on I 24. Bring a drool rag. And an arms budget so big you'll need congressional approval. When I get my 50, I'm going Barrett or nothing.
Nothing fance. I plan on getting an M99 soon enough.Take a trip to Outpost Armory in Tennessee a little south of Nashville on I 24. Bring a drool rag. And an arms budget so big you'll need congressional approval.
They have every civilian legal Barrett model there from the REC 7 ARs to the single shot M99 and its mag fed brothers all the way to the $12,000 M107 with suppressor. The entire backwall and counter top is filled with Barretts. Its a sight to behold. Photos can't really do it justice, next time I stop in I'll take a video.Nothing fance. Fuck. Next time im heading down to florida to stay in the will ill have to drive there just so i could make a stop at this place. And take out a small loan of a million dollars. They have every civilian legal Barrett model there from the REC 7 ARs to the single shot M99 and its mag fed brothers all the way to the $12,000 M107 with suppressor. It would be crazy out of your way. Even if you take I 81 to bypass the dreaded highway of doom, I 95, it would still be waaay out of way for you. But if you didn't mind the trip it might be worth a visit. Be forewarned that prices are full retail. They have everything though, and their bulk ammo prices have dropped to a fair level. In fact the had some Australian surplus M80 crates at what I assume to be a good prices at about $.60 a round. Not really sure about M80 price levels though.Fuck. Its still gonna be less out of my way than any other time I would be in the market for a .50. Most of my enjoyable travels are heading anywhere but further south. I definitely intend to get either the .50 or the chey-tac at some point in the future. But that may wait until it isnt equal in price to about a third of my salary for gun and glass. It would be crazy out of your way. The 408 cheytac and the 416 barrett need a bigger press. So here's my dumb question regarding things that make big booms. As far as reloading. I know a 50 needs a special press for its massive size but what about the "smaller" calibers like 458 cheytac or .408? Barrett.( is it .408 or am i mistaken?). Do they need a larger press or will a standard on work.
Alright I was way off on the calibers' diameters, but i don't think I'd be doing an ar conversion. If I have the money for a .50/.408 I'm likely not in NY anymore and ill be able to push the distance on them so I'm definitely sticking with a bolt action complete rifle. The 408 cheytac and the 416 barrett need a bigger press.
Once you get into the big boy calibers, Everything is on a larger scale and costs more money.
The only thing that gets smaller, is your bank account !
I've owned and competed with a lot of 50bmg's over the last three decades.
It's an awesome round to have in your arsenal, but it's on a whole different level of power.
Most ranges won't allow 50bmg's, so it's impractical, unless you have a range to shoot it at.
The cheapest & unregistered route would entail a 50Bmg AR Upper and a dedicated Lower for said Upper.
Why a dedicated lower ?
The Primer on a 50Bmg is a little thicker than a Puny caliber primer, so it need's some extra oomph to set it off.
That means a bigger hammer and springs are needed to make sure it'll fire.
That special Hammer won't fit the slot of a typical AR bolt.
Most dedicated 50Bmg lowers are single shot, as the Mag well isn't needed and you can't get it mixed up with your other lowers.
The above recommend uppers all work good and are reliable.
Don't even think about the Vulcan/Hesse or the BOHICA, unless you have a good insurance policy.
