I built an 80% lower and put an IFC 410 upper on it and it will not fire. It will do everything but go bang. Any thoughts?

we're also a bit leery of newcomers after all this is NY and our gov. is an anti-gun idiot that's known to have underlings go undercover to bust gun owners! More info would help. I'd start with a complete disassembly of the BCG and clean and oil everything, then I'd start with the lower, does it work? is the hammer spring in correctly? It's easy to get it backwards and lose pressure. check that stuff and get back to us .

The hammer has to hit the firing pin and the firing pin needs to hit the primer for the bullet to go bang.

Yes, I had a 300BLK on the lower and it ran great.
are The primers of the shells being dented Or otherwise marked?

No. Checked the bolt and pin, everything looks to be in order.
I would have said try different ammo but if no firing pin strike sounds as if bolt may not be going fully into battery. Did you try loading single round with no mag? Lubing BCG? Using forward assist (if it has one) to make sure bolt is fully engaged. Possible buffer and/or spring too light?
Would definitely check to see if in battery like @cgrutt recommends. Does firing pin move freely when you remove bcg and shake it? Be sure firing pin is seated properly behind the retaining pin. You should hear it rattle. Disassemble bcg and look for any unusual or rough surfaces or burrs. Be sure firing pin channel is clear.
Unsure how to test if hammer is striking firing pin. Maybe put a dot of grease on the head of firing pin and see if it transfers to hammer with a dry fire test. Maybe a tiny piece of masking tape on head of pin will work. Whatever you try be sure to clean the grease or remove the tape so it doesn’t cause a problem in future.

When I bought the upper they said to use a carbine buffer and spring so I did. I pulled the bolt and the pin rattles freely. I lubed it before I put it back together and it appears to ge into battery the way it should.

I don't think anyone on this forum, that lives in New York, would have access to such a firearm. In New York, magazine fed semiautomatic shotguns are illegal. (And...I've never even seen a 410 shotgun shell in person.)

I did try a different lower and a single round with no mag. Guess it is time to call the manufacturer. Thank you.
Did you change the buffer and spring for the new upper? You mention you are running a carbine buffer and spring are you also running a carbine buffer tube? If not I recommend going back to the correct buffer and spring for the buffer tube.
Sounds like the problem is in the BCG.

The tube, buffer and spring are a matched set. They came on the lower which is a Stag Arms.
Make sure the channel for the upper is wide enough to accommodate the width of the hammer from the lower and there is no drag when firing.
When I used a BRN-180 upper on my SCR I had to mill the channel wider by 1mm on each side.

A will it fire if you use a mill spec regular AR lower? Can you borrow a friends non 80 lower?
