Namely that when I got there I found it had burned down, as I would find out later. Now I hadn't shot for two months and I had @dsdmmat's April Match to shoot and one hell of an itchy trigger finger. Since I had driven an hour from Johnstown to Altoona I wasn't just going to just turn around and go home. Fortunately a Google Maps search turned up Blair County Game Fish and Forestry Association. An excellent outdoor range with a 25-75 yard rifle/handgun range, a 5,7,10 yard handgun only range, a plinking range with steel animal silhouettes for handguns and .22s, and best of all a 100-300 yard high power range. A young couple own/run/live on it, Rick and Sarah both of whom very nice people. Met some great shooting buddies there too. Spent almost the entire day from noon till dusk there and it only cost $10! I shot the April Match there and while function testing the 64 Gold Dots out of my newly pimped AR shot this:
Only a 25 yard group, NOT 100 (that would be insane) but its a freaking 30 round group! Love those Gold Dots.
Had the best day of shooting since I my days in Texas. Oh yes, no restrictions on firearm types (black rifle friendly) rapid fire is okay and no restrictions on anything "so long as you are behaving in a safe manner", you can even plink clays at the 75 yard range. Found my new shooting home, gonna get a membership, its only $55 for the year. Oh and I found out that though it was a close call everyone got out of the Altoona indoor range fire unhurt and that they will be reopening in 3 or 4 weeks. I'll hit up their shop still.
In all one of the best days I've had in a long while. Can't wait to go back again, which very sadly won't be for another two months.
