Trying to determine if that is a protruding pistol grip below the action or if maybe considered a thumbhole stock even though it's more of a skeleton type.

Even if it meets the literal definition on slight technicality you are definitely juggling chainsaws at risk to get jammed up by a gestapo agent or anti gun DA.
You can still be arrested if the agent feels you are violating the terribly written law and you would have to fight it in court with your own time and money
The best and safest method, move to a free state and once there fight like hell to keep your rights never giving up an inch and warning everyone who will listen what their plans are.

That's clearly not a pistol grip nor thumbhole stock. The spur is more or less (not officially) but unofficially agreed as being compliant.
The AR-15 thordson is a stock.
The original posted AK is a hybrid that I wouldn't want to be caught with by an over zealous anti gun cop.
But this again all goes back to the root of how terribly written the unsafe act is

I had one of those stocks before I sold my AK. It was alright functionally but looks like shit. I got rid of all my fixed mag/thordsen/spur etc. They always felt like a goofy work around to own a “real” gun.
SCR, mini, saiga, etc are the only rifles I own anymore, stuck 80 years in the past with iron sights and garand actions, but hey, they get the job done (sorta).

And full size magazines (30 rounders) pinned to 10 rounds are way better (if they are qualify) than 10 round magazines.. not sure if you've ever tried to "speed" reload a 10 round ak magazine.
Nice on the ID. As for the second bit, I personally don't agree with you. I stress the 'personally' part, as I do also clearly see how an argument could be made. I feel one would be 'solving' the problem while losing the benefits that not having the obstruction issues of AK style rifle pattern magazines provide. The 'solution' of training/re-training is, in my opinion, the better option; while retaining those benefits (assuming of course one is limited to such reduced capacity magazines). I'm not necessarily saying training could make 'speed-loading' as fast; simply that the side-effect of the (unfortunate) capacity limitation is also opportunity to somewhat allay a 'flaw' of the platform. Yes.. I've tried. r/dontyouknowwhoiam.. hehe
That said, I do not claim to currently own any said patterned firearms.
EDIT: Also, polymer magazines suck. You 'speed-load' these and I bet you wreck 'em fast.

And i take it you haven't tried to use 10 round ak mags.. if you have then you wouldn't be saying what you are saying about 10 being anywhere near on par with 30 round mags.

This is basically about as safe as you can get while being somewhat functional. That is the setup I use. I hate the spur, but at least cannot be denied that you can't get a full pistol grasp on it since you can't get all fingers around it -- on top of it being fairly close to inline with the action.
Spur is also widely used. A ban on the spur would be massive to do suddenly and without warning.

The saiga sucks. The safety is horrible that far forward from the firing hand, and the butt weighs about as much as a Tupper ware bowl. Its stock makes it aisinely front heavy.

I've run 580 ×mini-14s like a stuck pig. They work just fine.
The gas system is not fully garand. More like ak upside down. It's simplified.
