Access to 200, 300 or 400 yards

how many here have access to ranges longer than 100 yards? Would you participate in a challenge at greater distances if offered?

Well I will probably set up a 100, 200, 300 and 400 yard challenge I have some targets my club uses for our scoped rifle leagues that I can modify to fit on regular paper and legal paper.

Could almost shoot a biweekly league on here with them for a few months with a running tally on the score. Toss out the bottom two scores so if someone has a couple of bad shoots it won't hurt their average.

I have access to 200 yards at my gun club, 300 at a local farm if I want to deal with cows. The farmers son and I are best friends, if we change angles we could possibly get 550 yards but we r kids close to the neighbors.

My biggest issue is time, but I would love to do it.

I can get out to 200 yards, there is a 300 yard berm but its not practical to access.
Of course I don't have any magnified optics either but I will be getting one in a few months I imagine, a 1-6 type. that should suffice for 300 yards though not for the teeny tiny targets we usually do.
That would be my suggestion, increase the size of the target areas. I have excellent vision but even at 25 yards with our typical rifle targets its difficult to discern the details with no magnification. Different elements of a single match could be printed on seperate pieces of paper maybe? Look at the size of the SR1 100 yard target for example.

You cant find a few hours to spare all month? I'm home 3-4 out of the entire month and I drive 57 miles to my range and I find the time. Granted its the highlight of my entire break.

@Podmonkey spend my spare time with good friend and his family and working evenings till midnight or 2a ... hard to get home and go shoot in the dark LOL .. i never could get home and get to sleep a few hours later ..
my friend wants to hit the farm too and see what we can do at 300 .. its just making the time to shoot or spoil the kids and get mom mad LOL .. we been planning to get some reloading down ... the last to weekends we have off .. not working out well LOL ..

Just give us something thats visually easy to discern is all I'm saying. And instead of different catagories would it be possible to have score modifiers depending on equipment? Modifiers for .22LR or caliber in general, magnified vs unmagnified vs irons?
Such would allow for varied equipment levels to be more competitive with one another and this may lead to increased participation.

Open class course of fire is: 5 rounds from the bench at 100, 200, 300, and 400 at bench rest sized targets.

This is the target we use for 300 and 400 the 10 ring is 2.75 inches in diameter.

Well, I eventually plan to get a bolt gun with a decently magnifed optic on it but its not a priority right now. It will be some time before I have anything more than an AR with a 1-6 scope on it. I will try out the 300 yard bern at my range to see how feasible it would be for me to use but its located way up a hillside, overgrown and from below it looks almost inaccessible. Sight lines are blocked by trees from all but one bench too. That really nice range I went to for my training has a lane out to 500 yards I think. But its 75 miles from my apt and you need a membership too.

Funny thing about that target is: I have not been able to shoot it clean yet. The 200, 300 and 400 I have shot perfect. I always seem to drop 1-3 points on the 100 no matter how good I haves done on the others. I have shot them in all different orders too, just to see if the cause was the gun getting dirty or too hot, not hot enough. The 100 yard is my nemesis.

I forget the name of it, but there is a phenomenon that the bullet has not settled in at a 100. They’re making corkscrew like approaches and the further out you go the tighter the corkscrew is. At 100 it’s a wider.

Do some research, you will see it. That’s why sometimes it’s better to test loads at a little further out, to give the boy a little extra time to settle in.

Get a ballistic calculator. It is plug and play.

Sight in at 100. Know your BC and velocity.

Adjust and shoot. No asditional sight in needed.

I was thinking a shoot and post weekly type competition. Kind of like a postal match.
