Active Shooter training coming to Westchester

WHITE PLAINS – Westchester County is offering another training session for residents to learn the strategies and skills they could use to survive if an active shooter event occurred in their place of work or another public venue.

Known as Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE), the training class will be offered on Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at SUNY Purchase, 735 Anderson Hill Road in Purchase.
“We continue to provide our residents with practical guidance on how they can stay safe in the event of an active shooter incident,” County Executive George Latimer said. “Hundreds of County residents and employees have received this training already and we will continue to offer it in response to significant interest from the public.”

If only I had the time to attend. I would interrupt the standard duck and cover lecture they give and ask if a better defense against an active shooter would be to have armed citizens in the mix who could fight back.

I sat through a similar program that was offered through my work a few months ago. I thought it was very worth while. It was taught by a couple of the swat type guys from the sheriff's office.

Instead of "Run-Hide-Fight", they were promoting "Run - Fight - Hide". This is a big difference. They were also pretty open and adamant that those who can carry should carry when ever they are legally able to do so.

Anyone know if this particular training is any good? Is it similar to the training many of us take for our workplace?

My advice...exit if you can. Only engage the shooter if your back is against the wall otherwise you’ll be putting your family’s life in jeopardy by being killed by the shooter, killed by confused responding police, or bankrupt by lawsuits and or legal representation.

Let the police do their jobs and let the fish in the barrel either do their own jobs or be left to their own devices for failing to do their jobs of protecting themselves and thinking that someone else will do it for them.

It’s harsh but that is the world we live in. Lawyers are sharks, police shoot first when in doubt, and liberals and other sheeple think that someone else is responsible for their safety. They will not hesitate to sue you for a stray bullet for a payday and also believe you shouldn’t be carrying a gun anyways.

That is the same advice given in every self defense type class I've ever taken and the same as is being taught in these type of courses.

#1 - FTFO - get out of there as soon as your spidy senses start tingling. Don't wait to see what all the noise is. Don't wait to see what everyone else is running from. Go! Go! Go!

#2 - if you can't run away, fight the bastards and FIGHT TO WIN! Use any and every tool at your disposal. Gun, knife, fire extinguisher, rock, sharp stick.... anything. Don't stop until the SOB can't continue. Then refer to #1.

#3 - Hide until you can do #1 or #2.
