Affordable small carry gun?

I haven't been watching the market in quite a while. What's available for a small cary gun? Not interested in $500 guns, something very affordable.
My P99 is a bit hard to conceal sometimes. Thinking of trying something else.

Put in a bid for $250 and I wouldn't be surprised if you got it. There are numerous other listings for Shields as well. 1.0 Shields can be had for a bargain and they are excellent guns too.

You could save some more money and go for an original LCP, but you'll regret it when you feel the difference in the triggers.

Also, they say not to carry a round in the chamber specifically in the manual, which as far as I know is something glock does not say; I would buy a 380 glock if I had to do this again.

Send it back to ruger. They will fix it free and fast. I had a sr22 50% failure rate. I sent it back and the only original part that came back was the frame. I think everything else was replaced free of charge. I have a sneaking suspicion that the slide was killed wrong since I bought an after market guiderod to try to improve it and the gun wouldn’t even go back together. Slide would not go back on. It’s now much much better!!

I have an LPCII and no failures at all. My only complaint is the finish comes off and it’s starting to rust.
Also keep in mind if you don’t have any .380 ammo already you won’t find any. I swear they have stopped making it. I have not seen .380 ammo for sale in some time now. Maybe fin broker would have some but none of the popular web site have had any range or SD rounds for 2-3 months now.

Few things..

What's the budget.. I get you say you don't want a $500 gun... but does that mean $450 is acceptable??? Whats "too" expensive

Next whats small? Do you want single stack or double stack?? What caliber??

For example the lcp (more so the 2 but still) has been suggested, but maybe that's too small or is that the size you are trying to get to but .380 isn't your caliber of choice, or .380 is what you want but the again thats to small.

So what size are you maybe looking for? And what caliber?

I've never shot the original LCP but I can say that the LCP with enhanced trigger (LCP custom) is fantastic. The trigger is just as good if not better than on the 2. I found this out when shootin armadillos down in TN.

You must have gotten a lemon. Mine works perfectly fine out of the box and I have never had any issues of any type. Others on the forum also attest to their reliability. Send it to Ruger.

ETA: I've never shot factory ammo out of my LCP II

Glock 42 in .380 or Shield in 9mm both great options. While I’ve never fired one SCCY makes an inexpensive small 9mm. Be sure to do some research on them as early versions had mixed reviews.

Come with 6, 7, 8 round mags so you have flexibility how you want to carry and conceal it. With the 6 rounder it's tiny, you can have a nice controllable subcompact. With 7 or 8 round you can get a 3 finger grip on. It never prints even if I'm just wearing a t-shirt and shorts.

My position right now is strapped on cash. I normally carry a full size P99 in .40
In general I don't care for small guns because I have big hands but I can't deal with heat so much any more and getting harder to conceal the P99 lol

I liked the shield. I have nothing against it. Its a solid choice. I had it narrowed (pun intended) down to the shield or PPS. They are both lower prices quality guns that serve a subcompact single stack easily concealable niche very well.

I just didn't choose it specifically because the PPS felt better in my hand. I thought the shield grip was too narrow and if memory serves correct I felt the area on the back of the grip was very oval feeling and I just didn't prefer it. But it was just ergonomics for me.

I'm sure the shield is also a great, reliable, reasonably priced gun that would perform it's intended role admirably. People who have them seem to love them.

I don't usually give a shit, have noticed plenty of people see something there. My body doesn't lend well to covering anything lol. There have been times that it would have been better to not have that seen but it is what it is.

Just because someone may have seen "something" under your shirt (unlikely), they don't go right to "gun!". It's the furthest thing from most people's minds.
