Anyone been by lately to see if they were "open"? I had someone tell me that a friend told him they went to go shoot one day recently and there were signs up that they were either closed due to COVID 19, or maintenance or something. Almost sounded like there were multiple signs with different reasons why you could not shoot there.

I used to go there , nothing special, just a hundred yard range with 5 stations. range opens at 12 but you had better be there by ten , because people were waiting at each spot. I shot alone most of time , But I would share my spot with somebody if they seemed cool, father and his son , or something, got to shoot a lot of cool guns that way 
. I was there and I kid I used to work with years ago pulled up, He said hey how you been? mind if I shoot with you ? I said no come on, he said Ok hold on , he comes back a minute later with a van full of his army buddys , All these young Vets fresh from Afghanistan jumped out. FUCK. But we had fun. Told me their war stories , shot thier guns , My buddy almost got killed by a grenade , the door of the hummer was open , and it went off on the outside of door he had open and fucked up his hand .

I know they say paper targets only but I had been thinking about getting a steel target or one of those trees. It can't be any worse than the people who take tv's and other shit there to shoot up and leave behind.
Strange update for you and everyone else...
Just drove out there today. Got there around 11. All of the spots were filled with people already. Now for the weird part. There was a State Forest Ranger parked out there with his red and blue lights flashing. I’m not sure if he was writing tickets or what. It almost looked like he was waiting for people to leave. I can’t be sure though. I wasn’t able to see any closed signs but who knows. I can’t really think of another reason why he’d be there with his lights on.
This guy seemed tall, no mustache. Looked younger.

Was out there yesterday and it’s open. Shooting from noon till about sundown. Only allowed to shoot at paper targets. I had to wait 4 hours for a lane to open up due to the selfish asswipes that bring an ez up tent, grill and cooler and treat it like their own private spot. It bugs the shit out of me when you get people that will fire one shot every half hour and then stop and eat and talk for next half and, then fire one more shot and stop and talk for a half hour, and they end up sitting on the same lane for the entire day because it took that long to fire 8 shots.
Completely agree. All I wanted to do was fire 250 rounds through my new pistol so I could start carrying it. I had a legitimate use. Treating it like a private camp site bugs the hell out of me. Inconsiderate assholes with some piece of shit .22 rifle out there fucking around. There should be a lane only for pistol permit holders. Get your shit taken care of and leave so someone else can use it. I would never have waited 4 hours.

I had waited two weeks so what’s a couple of hours more? I wish I had private land to shoot on. I’ve tried to join any local shooting club I can find but every single one of them has the attitude of “we only allow shotgun skeet shooting” or “you need to have 4 current members as a referral before we will even consider you” or “we aren’t accepting new members as we haven’t accepted any new members for the last 5 years”. It amazes me that so many older shooters (over 60 crowd) in wny complain that younger generation doesn’t want anything to do with shooting yet they put up so many roadblocks to younger shooters (the under 60 crowd) my girlfriends dad belongs to a local shooting club but they haven’t accepted new members for almost 3 years now.

I reside in northtown s of buffalo. Trying to find a local place outside to shoot that isn’t controlled by the fudds is neigh impossible.

Man we are in the exact same boat and probably live very close to each other haha. I'm really curious how there isn't more just straight up public (non-club) ranges in this area. I feel like it'd be a great business to open but there just must be a tonnnnn of random costs to even do that...

They have a club house with a small. Indoor range for just .22. The outdoor range is pretty nice. 25-50-75-100-200 yard range. They also have trap. You can shoot just about anything you want. $30 per year plus you have to do a raffle 3 times a year. You can buy the tickets yourself or sell them. If you would like to see it , I can meet you there. It is on Orangeport Rd between 31 and 104. Give me a call at 514-3744 if you are interested. They have a meeting on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Not sure if COVID has changed that, because I haven’t gone to one in awhile. I think they have a website at Hartland Conservationists.

Is there really not a range you can pay to go to?
Fudds are not the end of the world. Jump through their hoops and pay whatever small annual fee and shoot whenever you want to.
For those near the swamps the firing pin in bergen is not terribly much further. It's only 25 yards but you can go in and pay and get a bay immediately.
