Antique Pistol on Permit

Purchasing a Type 26 Japanese revolver. Does anyone have one? How is it listed on your permit? I'm guessing the FFL will maybe, probably know.

Make: Koishikawa? That's the name of the arsenal where it was made.
Caliber: 9mm Japanese or should I have it listed as 9x22 Rimmed?

However, if Mr Greyshirt wants to inspect it and compare to my permit, he would have to know what the symbols on the gun mean and how to read Japanese.

Actually curious if it even HAS to go on a permit. Since ammunition is not readily available (I think I found two places that will make it) it classifies as an antique by NY's definition? Production date is somewhere between 1893 and 1924. No records exist to determine even an approximate year.

Only exemption i can think of in ny is for black powder pistols.......BUT, if you have caps, balls and power then it MUST be in your permit.

So i say it must be on your permit. Use the common name and model and you will be fine. 9x22

Any unloaded muzzle loading pistol or revolver with a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system, or a pistol or revolver which uses fixed cartridges which are no longer available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade.

So, I'm thinking, that like BP, it wouldn't necessarily have to go on permit unless I possessed the ammo to shoot it.

I agree with you on how the law reads, but if you have it listed as a 9mm and you have 9mm ammo I’d say that would be a bad thing. I’d just get it thrown on the permit and some day it would likely save you a lot of headaches. Alsnlikely an ffl will refuse to transfer it to you without it on your permit.

They put make as Jap Military, model is 26, and caliber as 9mm..

I own a Revolver that uses .455 BP Webley Cartridges.

In Mass.

They are IMPOSSIBLE to acquire.

Just to be safe, if it is going on the permit, I'd list the caliber as "9x22mmR Type 26" . That's a known designation and makes it very clear that it's unique to that firearm only.

That was my idea. The dealer put 9mm Jap on the receipt and I put that on my amendment form. When the card came back it just says 9mm.

Only considered antique if "unloaded" if you have ammo for it it needs to be on your permit (which I realise you said you were doing).

I would have loved to see them put 'Jap' on your permit. You could have had fun with that.
