Any news on the RDB-S or RDB-C ?

Anyone heard anything on these Kel-Tecs ?
If available and work's, I think it would be a great rifle to shoot in steel challenge and for predators too.

FWIW, the RDB while not without its problems, some of which are endemic to bullpups in general, has been well received as a quality piece. Just, good luck ever finding one. Gun Broker or similar venue is likely to be the only way you'd ever get one.

I really want one. I will wait for one. With this rifle, I wouldn't have the need for an AR in 5.56 nor will I feel like I'm carrying something that's been bastardized. I would actually buy this and prefer it to a standard AR due to the length and simplicity even if I lived in a free state.

Well, it has been bastardized. But in an attractive way. In fact I think it looks cooler and more interesting than the non compliant version. If you do get your hands on one please report on its ergronomics.

Well what I like about it and why I would prefer it over an AR even in a free state is the length of 26 inches and the ergonomics of it. It's like a stick with no protruding grips that take up space in a backpack.

I got one like 7 months ago for $999.99 from prepper gun shop. They had several black variants in stock but for some reason they weren’t aggregated on gundeals so nobody knew they existed.

The RDB-C has a threaded barrel with a thread protector on it, so it’s not NY legal without some modification. My protector seemed to be loctited on cause it was very hard to remove. I dealt with that by having it cut and crowned at ~18.5”. There’s still plenty of space to rethread it down the road. If you get one and decide to cut the barrel be sure you don’t cut too much, cause the forend is longer than the RDB-S variant. KT said there’s a chance the RDB-S forend might be interchangeable and available to buy at some point. The pistol grip furniture could be interchangeable too.

Here it is and then the RDB next to the SCR with a 16” barrel:

When I held one it was unbelievably light. And then way the charging handle operated led me to think there were missing parts, but it turned out there were not. I'd like to have the chance to check on out again, in more detail.

OAL is sitting at just shy of 28”.

I’ll be honest, only shot like 80 rounds through it. It’s surprisingly soft shooting and weighs about 7lbs but feels even lighter cause of how the weight is distributed.

I had one FTE, where the case got lip got badly bent and jammed at the end of the ejection port. Because of the way the rifle ejects, it’s very difficult to clear jams; you need a tool or rod to dig it out. It’s possible the gas wasn’t adjusted correctly. I read later that you’re supposed to start with it maxed and then go down a click until it won’t cycle and then go two clicks up. Something like that anyways.

It was pretty accurate at 20 yards, which was all I had access to at the time. Honestly if the rifle turns out to be reliable I’d say it would make a perfect 5.56 HD rifle in NY just cause of how maneuverable it is and the AR like cheek weld you get with standard optics.

I have one. Only about 50 rounds through it. Had some FTF and FTE issues until I adjusted the gas. Otherwise I like it . Can put it in my backpack when hiking or riding the ATV. Light and accurate at 50yds(all I got it out to so far). To me they’re so ugly they’re cool. If anyone is interested, Guns Inc in Castleton has a RDB-C and had 2 RDB-S until I bought one 3weeks ago. Okay price from a local shop I guess.

I cannot attest for the reliability yet as I only have about 50 rounds through it but once I adjusted the gas it ran flawlessly for those said 50 rounds. For me , its just like duck tape...... “thousands of around the house uses”

I'm not going to hate on Kel Tec. They seem to have a different philosophy and vision. That's ok. Manufacturers should try new things and push each other, as consumers it's always good for us to have more unique choices and competition to fit our needs.

I seriously considered an SU16 variant as an FUAC legal alternative.

I really wish KelTec had better QC, I like several of their designs but whenever I come across those that own them I get mixed reports.
I have never talked to anyone with an SU16 though.
The SU16 is an interesting rifle, and perhaps even better in a configuration but they seem to be focused on that occasional use backpack gun niche. They don't seem like they would withstand heavy use for very long.
That is also something of an issue with the RDB-C, it has a very lightweight pencil profile barrel to keep the weight low but this does not lend itself to an extended session at the range. Or at least so I presume.

American Shooter Supply in Albany has a couple. I held one yesterday........I LIKE how it shoulders and the grip (IMHO) is gtg. They are a left handed side charger, handle folds out. The 2 they have, have no iron sights, which the pics I've seen look terrible, and no great loss. I'd go w/ a RDS or my choice, a prism scope. They were in the $1100.00 range !
