Anyone catching any trout yet?

I went yesterday to a shorty little local place for about a half hour. Water looked good and hot a few of my favorite holes and nothing. There are usually some stickers and a few hold over. Even every once in a while you’ll get into a descent steelhead. I think they stocked them and the creek was blown out and blew them all down stream. It will take a bit for them to move upstream. I’ll get out again, but I’m super busy this year with landscaping.

They stock the creeks pretty well around here with brown trout,but I haven't trout fished in a few years.They make up for some early fishing just to get out of the house,but I get my kicks in ice fishing for walleye.And with this cold winter it made a great year,so waiting for the walleye season opener on the 5th.

Got 3 brookies yesterday in Bash-Bish creek between 4 and 6 pm.Plan on going over to the Esopus or one of the tribs I fish next week.

Tried it with my dad a couple weeks ago. We don't know what we're doing so we didn't catch anything.

Yeah they Are, especially now after the last couple days. These were were caught in a pond on those power bait salmon eggs, garlic flavored. These 2 weren't even hooked, they just wouldn't let go!!!! Good shit.

I took my grandson out this morning, he got two. I didn't pick up a fishing license yet. Next week if I get the boat trailer wired up for lights.

Talk to me about trout fishing, since i really don't know what I'm doing. I typically fish for smallmouth, which entails sitting in a boat in about 30' of water, fishing straight down.

For trout, what am I looking for? What sort of setup should be used? Types of waters, techniques, anything?

I'm going to say on the banks of creeks, so no trolling. Also, no fly fishing at this point, as that's a skill I do not yet possess.

If you know there are trout in the creeks and using spinning gear,a good bet would be a small garden worm,or red worms as they are called sometimes,not the night crawlers.Using a lite weight rod,put a light split shot about 2-3 feet above a hook.Cast upstream and let it drift down stream as close to the speed of the water as you can,bouncing the split shot to keep it moving.Start casting along and upstream the same bank you are on.moving out towards the middle with each following cast continuing til you reach across and up along the opposite bank.You want the worm to drift as naturaly as you can with the speed of the current.

I prefer creek fishing, like posted light fishing gear, small split shot and red worm or power bait. On the power bait I like the little ball bait. Like tiny marshmallows.
Cast above the holes and let it drift threw the deeper holes.
It it doesn't move along on it's own give it a little jerk to get it moving. The strike is really light so keep a finger on the line to feel the slight tug.

I love fishing for brookies, there are a few creeks up out of Old Forge I like fishing for trout.

Out here in Washington State we have lots of great trout fishing both creek and lake.

For lake fishing I like trolling with small flashers and then a small power bait or a fly on behind the flashers.

I like to use panther Martins for creek fishing. I use the yellow and silver and the black and gold combinations. Way easier to tell if your getting a bite. You need to focus on where your casting to as well. Look for cover for the fish and feeding lanes. They basically let the food come to them. Under cut banks and fallen down trees hold fish too. Adjust your size panther Martin on the depth and speed of water.
