Anyone ice fish on here?

My son and I are getting into ice fishing thanks to a friend of mine. So far we’ve caught a lot of small perch and blue gill/sun fish. My buddy provided me with everything I needed except I bought an auger, some lures, and a camera. The camera is very cool. Lots of fish on the screen and you can see how they act. My son did catch a rather large bass about 16” last weekend. I’m looking to get some larger fish and looking for some spots to go.
Im going Monday and thinking about going to the small boat harbor in Buffalo. I’d love to get a some larger perch, pike, musky, trout, or walleye. I know these aren’t super common but hey a guy can hope and you never know.

Went once with a friend on his own pond just for the hell of it. It was a lot of fun. We set the tent up and threw our cans of beer into one of the holes to keep really cold. Don’t remember catching anything but we sure drank a lot.

Man it’s like nonstop action. We catch fish every few minutes. Mostly small perch 6” or so. I’d imagine a small pond might be more difficult though. I find pond fishing tough because the fish get spooked easily in my experience.
We’ve done Chautauqua Lake and a boat harbor in Grand Island. I’m thinking small boat harbor this week.

I don't ice fish but talking to some that do they have mentioned how the barometer has a lot to do with pike biting.. Something to look into

I'm planning on taking my kids out for the first time this weekend. We're just going to jig for panfish on Conesus this time, since I only have a hand auger and don't feel like drilling a ton of holes in the ice for what could potentially be a short trip.

My ex-brother-in-law got me into it several years ago, and we fished Silver Lake and Honeoye Lake and got a few pike and pickerel.

I have a few friends that go up to Lake George and do quit well. Then when my local watering hole has it Cabin Fever party there is plenty of beer batter fried perch and poormans shrimp..

You even caught walleye on that? That’s what I hear but I find it hard to believe. We have plenty of jigs and I bought 4 packs of grubs thinking there was only a dozen in them. Well I looked last night and there’s 100/pack. So I’m good for a while. I also have some Swedish pimples and a few other jigs and buck hair jigs.

We measured it out to be 36 or 38". It was a while ago, so I don't remember exactly. It was a lot of fun hand lining it in.

I use to ice fish on Dorchester in Whitney Point a lot. Last few (8 or 10 lol) years there hasn't been much ice. The crappy derby has been canceled almost every year.

if you want some really good ice fishing, go to MENDON PONDS PARK.

me and my brother use to kill it with pike. heres where you need to go:

Park at Hopkins Point, look straight across the big pond (hundred acre pond), you'll see a swampy area, to the right will be the channel to Deep Pond.

from the channel to the left and 30 yards or so from the swamp set up a series of tip ups about 30 yards apart, ware good shoes, your going to be running from hole to hole, we use to pull 36"+ inch pike all the time.

no one fishes Mendon anymore, so there are some big fish in there. take a canoe in the summer, park at Devils bath tub, take the channel out into Deep pond, bass fish the left side towards the channel. me and my dad routinely caught 5, 6 pounders, dad got a 8 pound bass in there once.

great fishing and (for me) close to home, i forgot, the best time in the summer is between 7pm and 10pm,

Just got back from a trip to 4th lake and looking to hit up Oneida this coming weekend. Small Boat harbor and Union ship canal are nice for perch but your not going to find pike or Walleye there often. Chautauqua lake near long point is a good spot for Walleye.

Thanks guys. That me son ponds isn’t too far from me and it’s worth a day trip. Sounds great that no one is fishing there.
Went today and caught nothing special. Lots of smaller perch and I got into the smelt pretty good. They were actually rather annoying. They bit so light I couldn’t even feel them. They would just run around the hole with the minnow in their mouth.
there were a few huge perch but they didn’t seem too interested. They were biting the jig head but not the bait. Bastards.

Thanks I’ve heard that as well. We plan to maybe rent a house at Chautauqua lake and hitting II the walleye spot down there.

they show how to fish .. what bait .. what knots .. how to tie them . watch a crab loose a claw on it own so it don't die .. tons of fishing info ..
