Apparently you need the 16 hour training course for a premise permit in Erie County NY

I was going to have my wife get her premise permit so she could hang onto my guns if I die for my kids or sell them and not have to deal with all the BS but the new application came and it appeared to me you needed the training for a premise permit. I had heard they were going to be dropping the training requirement for a premise permit so I was surprised. I got to talking with rochester personal defense on another forum and he reached out to his contact there and confirmed they want the full training for a premise permit. Now I’m not sure if I should try to get my rifle permit before they make you do that to get it. I was kind of against getting my rifle permit because those will be the first in line to get their semi auto rifles confiscated when it happens.

Every county is different of course, but in Monroe I got my semi auto permit Friday ( 5 bucks, in and out) and per the clerk you would not be required to add semi auto long guns to your PP, just the endorse to purchase one. Without registration, there's no record so if erie is similar, I would just do it.

Yup all the counties are different. Onon county amendment for semi auto rifle was $3. Wifeys upgrade to full carry was $3 no questions asked.

Odd when I called the Erie county clerk's office a few weeks ago they didn't think you would need to take the course for just a premesis. So I was going to do the exact same thing, get my wife to take that. But now I'm not sure I will have to investigate more.

16 hours. What the fuck are they going to talk about for 16 hours? More importantly, who has the time to allocate two full days for this. But of course that is the intent all along. Make the requirements to onerous people will not bother to follow through on the decision to purchase a gun.

For now. I’m worried about the state having a list of those who have semi auto rifles. I don’t trust the state and I don’t really need anymore semi auto rifles, but of course that could change rapidly.

Let me know if you hear differently. I heard from FTWNY no training needed but when the new application came out it seemed like you needed it and it says all need to training attached. So I saw Roch PD on a forum advertising training so I asked him. He checked with a connection at the permit office and they said everyone needs it. I don’t know.

This and the cost is why she will not do it. I don’t blame her.
