The term you are looking for to search for information is "fixed mag". The SAFE Act website carries no weight of the law. The section your looking for in the penal code is 265. The tells you what you can't have not what you can have so you wont find anything saying a fixed mag is good to go,

One last question. I converted my second rifle to fire 9mm rounds. I can only buy 10rd mags and the tiny little mag looks dumb sticking out the magwell a quarter inch. Question is can I have someone send me a 32rd mag that are taken apart during shipping and i make them 10rd by making it permanent?

You can find 10/32 mags online but everyone seems to be on back order. You should be able to find an FFL to do it also. They make the inserts to limit the rounds it just needs to be installed and pinned/epoxied.

I couldn't find any of thkse 10/32 mags. For the 5.56 they are everywhere. Not for the 9mm though

Find a local FFL sure they would be willing to pin them or call @Bullet Guy he can fix you up

The 10 round mags aren't that bad. If you can get past the looks they work just fine. Plus they fit in a standard pistol mag holder and don't interfere with your shooting if you are shooting from a bench.

You probably can't find anyone that will ship them to NY anyway, there use to be an outfit that would ship then to us as parts but I think that source has dried up. If you find some, I don't see why you can't slip off the bottom cap and insert a block, just like is required with a shotgun for duck hunting that holds more than three rounds.

For me, anyway, looks < function. My AR9 already looks like crap with the Thordsen on it. If anything, since we can only have 10 round mags I find the gun (marginally) more manuverable with the shorter mags inserted.

Use a 10 Rd Glock 17 magazine. It looks normal.

Pinning a mag on a Glock magazine rifle will be pretty hard to load. Glock magazines aren't as easy to load as 5.56mm magazines.

I've seen uglier rifles if that is your main concern. I get how you feel though. Me personally, I'd rather deal with a weird stock than lose the detachable mag.

Here's what mine looks like with a tiny little Glock 26 magazine and the Thordsen. It grows on you eventually. I'm going to paint it multicam next.

The safe act was a feature ban, not a complete rifle ban. There is actually a statement on the safe act FAQ page that states if you remove the banned features, it is no longer an "assault rifle" and is legal to own. I use my AR's for hunting among other things and they are featureless. I always keep a small laminated copy of the law on me that pertains to those guns. The law is written in stone and should not be open to interpretation. If I am ever stopped and questioned, we can run down the list of banned features according to the law and count zero features on my rifles. But judging from the amount of safe act only arrests since the law was put into effect, it seems like most sheriffs and local PD's could care less about this stupid law. Now state police is a whole different story.
