Ar pistol to rifle

So with the atf going rogue again, and the likelihood of a Biden win along with possibility of losing the Senate, I'm thinking of turning my 10.5" pistol to a rifle.

I believe this is going to be one of the first things targeted. Turning into a rifle is the easy part. My frustration is going to lie with de-registering this with the state police.

O would need an ffls help with this, and I fear it still won't go as planned. I just don't trust the state boys.

I think my easiest option may be to sell the stripped lower as a pistol. Actually I prefer to trade the pistol lower marked 5.56/22lr on my permit for a stripped lower.

What ideas do you guys have?

My thoughts - "Sell" it to the FFL to get it off your permit. But can he then "sell" you the receiver as an other? IDK.

It might be easier to sell it out of state and get a virgin receiver

That's the dilemma. Probably easiest to sell. The other way is to decommission, or destroy, but not sure how you'd prove that to the troopers, without them physically doing it. I doubt handing over my barrel will satisfy them. If it was only on the permit I wouldn't worry about it, but being registered with the troopers database now, I can see them pulling some shenanigans. I want to be off their radar with them.

If it comes onto the FFL's books as a pistol I don’t believe he can change that.

You might be able to sell the stripped lower to him as an other, but still use that receipt to remove it from your permit. Depends on your local permit officials.

I've never removed anything from my permit, but I would assume in Livingston it would just take a visit to the clerks and telling them "It's not a pistol anymore, I want it off my permit".

It is illegal for a normal (non manufacturer) FFL to do it.

For the same reason you can make a rifle out of an 80% but your FFL can't.

When you take the paperwork down to the clerks with the make and serial number on the FFL's receipt, I doubt they are going to care if it says "pistol" or "other" at the top. They will just remove that serial number from your permit.

I want to keep my rail, timney trigger. Just thought it'd be easier for me to add a barrel. Especially with today's inflated prices, and parts unavailability.

Agreed. Not quite as easy to make pistol disappear from State police database though.
