Ar15 hammer spring

A New build ar15 has frequent soft strikes/fail to fires.

After researching common causes most of them point to a backwards/upside down hammer spring or out of spec firing pin.


What do you guys think of this spring? At first I thought it was proper,

but now I think it might be installed wrong.

What do you guys think?

Any helpful advice?

Honestly, it takes a whopping two minutes to pull the assembly out and put it back right. If you're not sure how YouTube has a thousand videos of it. At least if you're still having problems after that you know it's not the install.

Alternative problems could be the hammer spring was overturned and lost some of it's spring tension, build up in the firing pin channel causing the firing pin to hold back, or a bad firing pin altogether.

With that said- common mistake.

PS, my rule of thumb, if it wasn't a (bit of a) pain in the ass it's probaby upside down.

There is only one CORRECT way to put in this spring, if you think about it. Cocking winds up coil spring, hammer release unwinds it.

It is backwards.
