Arex Rex Zero 1 (Sig clone) vs. Sig Legion Torture Test

This is an interesting comparison of a Sig P226 Legion vs the Arex Rex Zero 1. The Arex is apparently a Slovenian clone of the Sig P226.

Sure, the torture test may not be completely scientific. But, it appears fairly consistent with potential real world conditions to me. The performance of the sub-$600 Arex is impressive.

I traded my P226 Legion for a PPQ and Shield, mainly because I thought it made little sense to own one $1300 range toy when for the money I could have the two above pistols and have practical carry use out of them. I must admit though that this video expedited my thinking along those lines.

1000 round torture test. 0 malfunctions. I'm not a fan of gadgets like hammers, decockers and safeties to get one but man did it perform.

Problem I have with guns like the Arex is I have no use for safeties on a DA/SA pistol. Defeats the purpose of the action. DA/SA guns should have decocker and that's it. I wonder if a standard P226 would fare any better? After watching a number of these and similar other tests it would seem a common thread to these failures on quality, high end guns is a very tight barrel to slide lockup. The Legion locked up like a Genevan bank vault. It was a nice gun but I hated the reduced controls, the slide release was a real thumb buster. I will get another P226 someday, but I think it will be a standard model. Perhaps a W. German marked one.

The Legion, or any SIG is more than what the clone can offer.

My .357Sig Legion 229 is no range toy, safe queen or otherwise. It's my daily carry! It's shoots very well, Love the trigger! And SIG CS is notorious for keeping customers happy. Case in point. My Legion 229 was hitting 4-6" high @ 25yds out of the box. I gave it time as I wanted to eliminate anything I might have been doing to effect poi. I let others handle it too without saying anything and got a overwhelming response that it wanted you to AIM lower. Lol. Still, 6 o'clock hold targeting brought me to consistency I could live with. Until... I bought a conversion kit, same caliber, so I could mill the slide and have a reflex sight installed. I swapped out the slide/barrel and went shooting. Man oh man... I was driving nails... Confirmed my Legion slide/sights were off. Contacted SIG CS, sent it back to them, little over two weeks it came back to me, new rear sight, GS target enclosed and all costing me zilch! Took it to the range...


This was 13yds as I went to indoor range... But evident is SIG stands by their products. I have no problem saving a few bucks here and there. But not when it's my carry, I want perfection on all fronts. Not saying Arex doesn't have the same, but never heard of them before and I would wait out all the euphoria and see what's there when the smoke settles out.

I "think" the AREX has to have a safety for importation. Does anyone have any details on import laws?

I don't think so as you can get decocker only CZ DA/SAs. The PPQ is also able to be imported with no external safety or decocker.

The PPQ had never had a safety or decocker.

Same with any Glock.

That's fine. I did like mine a lot but, but if you had no handguns of any sort like myself at the time, and minding I had just gotten my CCW license, would you rather have one $1300 gun that is pretty unsuitable for carry or two less expensive guns both of which are good to excellent carry options? I just put the cart before the horse is all. Another P226 is in my future for sure. Maybe an X series since I've got the practical bases covered now.

Kinda BS test imo. The pistols were out of the box, should have fired 500 to 1000 rounds first. The Sig is a tightly fitted gun so a break in may have changed things.

The Glock wasn't brand new and it failed in the sand test. That Sig failed in every test.

I think these manufacturers need to chill out on these super high tolerances on pistols. A pistol is a last ditch defensive tool that needs to work each and every time at ranges of point blank to 25 yards or so. It isn't a 100 yard 1/2 MOA gun.

That's what specialized target guns are for.
