Short version - congress has abdicated its responsibility to the executive and judicial branches of government. Thus supreme court hearings are so contentious because the court is now viewed as another place for legislation to take place.
If the democrats that orchestrated the disruptions this morning had any sense of decency they would hang their heads in shame. But we all know they don't.
