Bi-Pod

The more I shoot my Valkyrie the more I realize the inadequacies of some of my equipment. Right now I am using one of those three legged things with a yoke that screws up or down. It works fine for what it does but I think something a bit more firm or sure would be more suitable.
I looked on line and there are a crap-ton of them. I like the idea of the carbon fiber legs for a bit of weight saving, because I do plan to hunt with the gun, but other than that I am on information overload and would appreciate any input from you fellows.

I am not a bipod expert, and I haven't shopped for one and several years. With that said, I know the atlas bipods we're always considered very good, and Harris also makes good bipods.

Love my atlas but I think he's talking about something you stand and shoot from.

No, I was thinking of bench resting. When I hunt and am in stalking mode I use one eye to look for game and the other looking for something to lean against. When I find a good spot to set up, it would be suitable for using a bench type bi-pod. Thats a cool idea though Carlos!!!!

However Magpul's new bipod looks like a really great item at a more modest price:

What kind of attaching point do you have on the bottom of your handguard?

To me,,,the best rest on a bench is a sand bag because you can balance front weight and rear weight. Its more stable than using a bipod. 224 valkyrie,,,what can you hunt with that? Im thinking woodchucks,,,which if you use a bipod the grass has to be low, cut short,,,,, better off with a tripod. Coyote,,,best bet is to use a tripod while sitting in a chair,,,at least this is what I do. Suppose with the 90 grain bullet you shoot out of a 224 you could use it for deer,,,,I wouldnt use any kind of rest. I have bipods on a couple of my guns but dont get good use of them because I find better alternatives depending upon what I'm doing.

I use a leadsled when sighting in rifles without a bipod on a bench. If my rifle has a bipod attached, I use that and a rear bag. I shoot better when I load the bipod.

I have that one,,,,,the one I have isn't level compared to the level on my scope. One leg is longer than the other when fully retracted.

I have several Harris bipods. The shorter they are, the more stable they are. Also, the ones that don't pivot are much more stable than the pivoting models. The Harris bipods are all made right here in the US. All the Harris look-a-like bipods are made in China.

I also have an Accu-Tac which is an awesome bipod, but very pricey. +/- $ 350 for the super heavy duty model I have.

I have one Atlas bipod as well. Again, it is a very stable unit, but very pricey like the Accu-Tac.

Harris used to be the standard but there are so many other good ones out there for less. I wanted a cheap bipod and ordered a Harris look a like from China for cheap and boy was I surprised! That thing is just as rock solid as my Harris, I went back to order a couple more and they are no longer a vendor

The one thing you have to be concerned about with the Chinese knockoffs is that they use cheaper metals that will not withstand the same use over time and they will fatigue and fail faster.

The main issue with the Harris bipods is that the legs don't lock which makes loading pressure onto them for stability a fussy matter. They are also fairly heavy.
I listed that Magpul one because the cost is about the same and the legs do lock. Also despite its appearance the construction is of steel and aluminum with polymer encasing it. You also have interchangeable feet like on the high end offerings.
The genuine Harris bipods are fine but they have been around a long time and as such they have been surpassed by newer models.

I wanted a tall one so I could shoot chucks while in a sitting position, it was tall enough but no where sturdy enough when extended and it was to tall for prone use.
