Biden Regime Set to Ban OVER HALF of all Gas Furnaces and Change How Millions Heat Their Homes​

The Regime will soon finalize new regulations severely restricting what furnaces you can buy for your home in the future and make new purchases more expensive. The rules were originally proposed back in June 2022 by the Department of Energy (DOE).

Under the proposed regulations, DOE would require furnaces to achieve an annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) of 95% by 2029, meaning manufacturers would only be allowed to sell furnaces that convert at least 95% of fuel into heat within six years. The current market standard AFUE for a residential furnace is 80%.

The network explains this would take non-condensing gas furnaces off the market due to AFUE requirements. Consumers who replace their non-condensing furnaces with a condensing one would face potentially cost-prohibitive installation costs.

They’re going to have to, in many cases, install new equipment to exhaust gas out of their home. These higher efficiency units, or so-called condensing units — a lot of consumers have them in their home, but a lot of consumers don’t. So, this rule would require additional retrofits for a lot of consumers. And those retrofits can be extremely cost prohibitive.

Fox News says that up to 60% of all current residential furnaces on the market would banned under the new proposals.

These Laws/rules would have made me a fortune, that Heat pump that used to cost $8K to install, just doubled in price or more.

Another issue I see is, what about apartments/townhomes? Where you have three families stacked on top of one another? Is the first floor family going to be able to drill two 3½" holes in a closet into the two apartments above it. Most HOA's do not allow "gooseneck wall terminations" out the side of the building, because they are unsightly? so you have to go through the roof. Or the HOA is going to forced to change their rules

I too just run it when its actually cold. Last season was the first year I have ran in in probably 4 years, just was sick of the hassle. With fuel prices bidenized it made sense as will this upcoming season.
The only reason I have ever felt it necessary to replace a "modern" furnace is if the heat exchanger was shot. The replacement cost is just not worth it. When this goes through I should start modeling popular exchangers and manufacturing them. Its just stamped stainless steel, and some could be hydroformed to save die fabrication costs. Hmmm....

I have a whole spare furnace in barn to use for spare parts that I bought damaged. Fans, valves, switches, HEAT EXCHANGER.

My current nat gas furnace is about 15 years old and has been chugging out 96+AFUE since I installed. Heating the 1300sq ft home with a 60K BTU unit.

The company warned me against going with heat pumps and electric for my area.

What sucks about heat pumps is when they get burried with snow. Power outage not necessary to render them useless.

That was another warning I got from the company that put my new furnace and A/C package in.

Often times they will pack up with ice and snow, more so during a snow storm, no different than a radiator on a vehicle.

Where mine had to have been situated, it would've been packed with snow all winter long.

Oh, BRB, I need heat, I gotta go defrost my heat pump out..... yeah, I'll get right on it.........

To be fair furnaces are useless and potentially dangerous if the vent gets buried in snow as well (high efficiency side vent, not 80% afue chimney) Last winter when we had that massive storm I had to dig my vent out twice.

That being said, heat pumps are more prone to being impacted than a side vent, assuming thr same placement.
