Black Collar Arms "Pork Sword"

Well after seeing another post and the subject of shotgun/pistol hunting only was being discussed, and then "pistols" in rifle calibers was mentioned, I decided to try and not hijack the thread and start my own.

I mentioned the company Black Collar Arms and their "Pork Sword" pistol which you can get pre-built in 300blk or 308. But they also have a custom build option with the following

Either a Remington 700 or Savage Small Shank

416R stainless steel OR Carbon Fiber

Any inch length between 6" and 15"

And the following calibers

223 wilderness
300 black out
6.5 Grendel
6.5 Creedmoor
308 winchester
375 Raptor
224 Valerie
. 243 Winchester
6mm ARC
6mm Creedmoor
6x47 Lapua
6BR
.260 Remington
6.5x47 Lapua
6.8 SPC
7mm-08 Remington
270 WSM
300 WSM
.338 Federal
350 Legend
358 Winchester
45 Raptor
.450 Bushmaster



One of these custom ones can be build for around $1,100 but can get much more with many of the add ons Black Collar Arms offers.

Why would anyone want this. Well like mentioned above shotgun/pistol only areas, the Contender has always been a solid option but is a single shot "pistol" but the Pork Sword is a bolt action pistol

It can remain small and light as well

Did you go with a Remington or Savage action in yours? And what caliber did you go with? How's recoil with the pistol brace? Thanks for the info and starting this thread.

Oh man I wish ahhahaha. When I first started looking at these they didn't offer the action as well, so I was left with finding a virgin 700 action that was never a rifle to build a pistol and that was super rare/expensive.

But since then Black Collar Arms now makes their own actions.


Also I believe @meketrefe would be better suited to the 700 or Savage option for their custom builds..

Looking at those I see a bad ass looking gun that most likely can't be fired any faster than my TC Contender. You might be asking why, take a look, they are right hand bolts I like most folks are right handed. So after the first shot (BTW I've only needed a second shot once with my TC )how do you work the action? Reach over with your left or hold the gun with the left remove strong hand and then regrip? With my Contender after firing I just release the lock and drop it open all with the right hand, at the same time removing a new cartridge from a sleeve carrier and pull empty out and insert new shell close and fire. All from a gun that cost half of that and has multiple barrels.
I still like the looks of them

I mean you operate the gun just like you would almost every single bolt action out there??

Yeah but with a pistol you want a lefty bolt for a righty shooter if you want fast accurate reload. It's quite a bit slower to either change hands, or bumblefuck around the scope. I've shot both Savage Strykers and my Encores, Encore type action is faster reload than right bolt on righty gun.

Why would you change hands on this but not on a rifle??

The problem with bolt action pistols is the ackwarness of operantion in absence of a stock but with a "brace" and avoiding long actions /long bolt throws that is better

Not that you would, just pointing out that without a left hand bolt for a right hand pistol, it's awkward.

Using a pistol brace as a stock, whatever. I'm sure DEC would be just fine with that. However I pistol hunt with a ...... pistol. Not a SBR disguised as a pistol lol.

How is it as a stock?? Nothing illegal about resting your cheek on an arm brace

I guess it's only a face a mother could love, though weirdly the more I look at it the more I like it because it is function in its purest form. It's unfortunate that such things have to exist to get around strange hunting laws.

Lmao... i don't see a problem with using it that way but you know damn well what the ATF considers uses of braces and stocks. If you're resting your cheek on it, you're also shouldering it....or chesting it lol. Not that I care though, I think it's all bs.

I guess you don't know what the ATF considers then since the ATF has said it is 100% legal to shoulder a brace

Maybe I'm wrong but pretty sure they haven't always said that. Thought there was some legal issues at one time about shouldering a brace. That's no different than a SBR.

Nope, originally they said shouldering was not illegal, then a few years later said it was illegal, then a few years ago decided to go back to the original ruling of its not illegal

Have you shot a true hunting pistol before such as a Stryker? Serious question.
Generally a right handed shooter keeps their right hand on the grip and reach over the scope to work the bolt with their left hand, PITA. Not so with a left side bolt. You don't use your grip hand to work the bolt on a pistol.
With an Encore or Contender you simply pull the trigger guard to open the action. It's easier and faster than you think if you haven't shot them. For 15 years I hunted only with Encores. Grip hand stays on the grip.
Of course from my point of view a pistol is a firearm meant to be fired from your hands, not be shouldered.

That's fine, I don't care for them myself but have put quite a few rounds through one. They do shoot well though. There are a number of hunting pistols similar.

Personally I've toyed for a couple of years with the idea of buying a big steel 44 magnum revolver with a scope for hunting. S&W has one I love but it is not cheap.

I'd have to file that in the Do Not Like category. They could have done a much better job cleaning that thing up. Especially above the grip. It looks heavy.
