Brindisi pushes universal background checks
Of the recent mass-shootings that the antis are using as excuses to further their gun-ban agenda, many of the shooters passed a background check.
Also, many of them had been “flagged” by friends and/or relatives and nothing was done.
The Sandy Hook shooter was refused the sale of a gun because he refused to fill out the paperwork properly.
The background check system worked in that case. So, he did what criminals do - he murdered a legal owner of legal guns and stole the guns that he then used in the shooting.
They are crowing for “universal background checks” as if these checks are magical or omnipotent. The shortcoming of a background check is just that - it only checks a person’s background. These checks are not predictive.
These checks can’t predict if a buyer is going to commit an atrocity and as it turns out, when somebody does predict such an act and turns the person in to authorities, nothing happens.
Bottom line - the only way to enforce universal checks is, drumroll........ registration!
“Universal background checks” is just the beginning. To enforce it, they’d need every single gun to leave a paper trail.
As we’ve been saying all along - background checks leads to registration leads to confiscation.
Anthony Brindisi, with all due respect, go fuck yourself.
I’d leave out the “with all due respect” part.
NY22 deserves better.
It’s amazing how much outside money can buy. He is living proof.
Long term Tioga County Congressman Howard Robinson is likely rolling in grave with NY gerrymandering and this slug sitting in Congress.
Here's the thing.
Congress doesn't have a right to enact "universal" background checks.
Private transfer between two parties in two different states cannot be construed as "interstate commerce" if for example Grandpa Joe in Texas wants to give Uncle Shlomo in Arkansas his AR. Unless you want to tell me Grandpa Joe is a dealer and the worst businessman in history.
Universal means universal, should include guns, voting, immigration, employment. Anything less is non inclusive.
I register my car so It won't be stolen. Facts + Statistics: Auto theft | III , guess that isn't working.
We have the war on drugs, that isn't working.
We have immigration laws, that isn't working.
We have equal rights laws, that isn't working.
Here's an idea let's make more laws, as the ones we have don't work, but we all can feel good we did ? Something, be it useless to the problem.
Tenney doesn't end with a vowel.
From what I have seen from the election results, the left targeted NY22 with out of district money, and stirred up votes from Trump hating midterm voters. They also used a new technique called "make your vote count" to focus on colleges in the district (Binghamton University, Hamilton College, Colgate University, and Utica College) and get out of district city kids to vote in their college's district. That scheme was enough to unseat a few NYS Republican incumbents. In fact in NY19, city residents were openly bused to Kingston to protest, campaign, and vote. A NY judge ruled it was ok for NYC voters to vote up-state as long as they don't vote twice. With excess unneeded blue city votes diluting upstate representation, a two state solution for NY may be needed.
The Observer-Dispatch will be running a letter to the editor I wrote in response to this.
You are truly an optimist if you think the 18 people that still read the ODius for anything but the obituaries will make a difference. You might want to post your letter here if you want someone to read it.
I commend you on your site, however.
I realize my letter alone isn't going to make a difference. NRA and Co. should have gone on a media offensive immediately both in NY and elsewhere. Antis control the narrative now and that needs to change.
