Bringing a non-compliant AR to a training event.

Greetings from America!

I was recently at a fantastic training event in upstate New York with my bolt gun, and thought it would be great to take my "Assaulty" AR10 there for long range fun.

Are there any provisions for allowing non-compliant rifles at training events? What about easy ways to make a non-compliant rifle compliant?

Put a fake mustache on the pistol grip. Then it will not conspicuously protrude below the receiver - it will inconspicuously protrude.

Still gotta work on the muzzle brake though.... :idk:


For real though... Either say 'screw it' and disregard the law or make the rifle compliant. Those are your choices.

No. Why bring a certain type of rifle into a state that has banned them? Do you like jail? Do you like legal fees? Is it worth it to you? That said, you'd be at the mercy of the people at such events as well as lady luck with not getting pulled over and searched.
As far as compliance, yes, you can convert your rifle to be "compliant". You can go the fixed mag route or you can go featureless. My vote would be to go featureless. You will need a Thordsen stock to do so. Not exactly cheap but it seems to be one of the safest bets here in the prison state of NY. I know, it really sucks and shouldn't be. You should be able to bring your AR10 anywhere.

Protip ask anyone who doesnt think a fixed mag AR is legal to show you a single case of someone getting arrested with one and getting convicted

No easy answer. The police have stated a bullet button is a no go. The other mag locks on the market that need tools to remove satisfies the way the law is written in my eyes, but you're still taking a chance depending on who you ask. A mag lock filled with epoxy and you are 100% safe.

As @Edwardteach72 has posted- nobody has been arrested, or more to the point, convicted with a fixed magazine, although I do know of some that have been confiscated. Stay out of trouble and don't do anything stupid and chances are you'll be fine.

A 10/32 t-nut available at any hardware store will be your cheapest option.

This gun shop owner would have been convicted. His defense of using an MR2 as a fixed magazine was thrown out by the court. He tried to use definitions for fixed magazine from other states and the court denied it.

The only reason he wasn't convicted was because the police gained unlawful entry for search and seizure.

Read my post above where I said don't do anything stupid, or break other laws. Jackson's got themselves in trouble. I don't recall them going after anyone who bought from there. Same as the shop in Albion. Cops got ahold of customers and said to epoxy the bullet buttons and all is good.

While the mr2 was a good workaround, we all knew the police were going to have fits about it.

Not familiar with that case but CTRL-F "assault", brings me to this:

Footnote 3:The Court recognizes that the People's interpretation of the impact of an MR2 on the lawfulness of a semi-automatic rifle is opposite to that of defendant, and declines to make a determination as to whether the installation of an MR2 renders a rifle inside or outside the scope of the definition of assault rifle. In this Court's view, such a determination should be left to the trier of fact.

I agree with the "people" here.

Those MR2 are not fixed magazine, IMO. There is nothing in the law in word or spirit hat says opening the rear take-down pin constitutes as disassembling the rifle to some degree that removing the magazine is no longer "detachable".

I still believe the fixed mag you're good to go, like T-nut or whatever.

As for OP I would absolutely not be bringing an "assault weapon" to any event in NY unless it is registered and legal as such.

Like I mentioned. Try and get any of these people crying fixed mags arent legal to show you any case of someone getting arrested with a fixed mag AR15, let alone convicted

Fix the mag while driving.

No one will ask any questions if the mag is removable at the shoot.

Disclaimer: i am not advocating you break the law......

Yes there is a provision to compete, The first is that your weapon and mag must all be pink or Chartreuse, and your weapon sights must be removed, and that you must wear leotards while competing, some states allow wearing diapers in lieu of leotards.However, everyone must wear a T- shirt swearing eternal allegiance to Andrew Cuomo.

That's pretty cool that I'm stock photo worthy.

I had the opportunity to shoot at Sheepdog Warrior with my 65 CM and would like to take my AR10 since there's no where to shoot more than 300 yds in Rhode Island.
