I love when people try to say that OC deters crime lmfao
That's because you are law abiding. If I was a criminal out of jail, I certainly would. It wouldn't be hard for me to case someone I saw and plan to do it on my terms.Anecdotal, but I'd be less likely to tangle with someone with a gun on their hip.
I think OC deters the undetermined criminal.
For a determined attacker you are the primary target.
There are no studies but the fact of the matter is that it gives away your element of surprise. If he would have knocked him out with a blunt instrument from behind, that firearm would be his.
I think open carry is very appropriate under certain circumstances. Hiking, hunting, on your property working, a long drive, just getting into your car to go to a drive through, ect.
But in public spaces it's a hindrance. You get stares from people who normally wouldn't look at you. If a crime in progress happens with you there, you become target number one. If you are concealing during the crime in progress you have the choice to act or just do nothing if you think it's safe or act later when he doesn't have the drop on you. Not so if open carrying and the criminal spots you. It'll basically become a gunfight on who gets shot first or keeping your hands up and surrendering your firearm if you are dead to rights. If you are standing in line, you need eyes on the back of your head because anything can happen. Federal Air Marshals conceal carry for reason. They can act on their terms rather than the criminal's terms.
I don't think anyone mentioned legality.I don't disagree with what you are saying but it should still be the choice of the person carrying. I hate having to worry about reaching for stuff or printing.
I don't think anyone mentioned legality.
Convenience and comfort too.Open carry is just so you can draw quicker.
