canned goods shortage in NY?

Has anyone noticed lower than normal canned vegetable inventories at your local grocery stores?
Shelves here at our local IN stores are about half full.
There are a couple sites talking about this...supposedly the shortage is due to a bad spring harvest.

I haven't noticed it either. I'm guessing it's because we don't consume canned veggies. It's either fresh produce or bust.

I can't tell you the last time I bought canned veggies. I think they're gross. It's fresh or frozen for us.(yeah, not good for prepping, but, ya know)

We mostly eat frozen BUT, it’s worth pointing out that canned veggies actually have more nutrients.

I remember reading something about this from a prepper site. It's not just NY but other places too. The author was unsure of the reason why but also noticed a shortage. Did some interviews with employees who stated they were unsure why too just that deliveries weren't being made as much as there once was.

I havent noticed a shortage, but my purchases are usually limited to beans, taters and Mexican peppers. Everything else is fresh.

I'd be surprised if it was really based on flooding, etc. Considering time to harvest, process and get in the can, the most recent events seem too recent.

From what I gathered..the shortage is due to a bad SPRING harvest in the warmer climates...

the concern is that the droughts and floods we're currently seeing will impact the FALL harvest as well..compounding the problem.
I don't get out of my AO much so I'm just trying to confirm if it was a real thing or not..
The Krogers shelves here haven't been fully stocked for at least a few weeks but the prices haven't gone up much. Supposedly ,some where, Walmart and Meijers have signs posted about it.

I would.think drop in quality would precede any long-term shortage. No way these company would run out of shit to sell, unless it was a major catastrophe.

I saw in the grocery store that extreme heat in Cali is causing a vegetable shortage. Maybe that's possibly to blame.

No idea if it’s connected but the weather across the country has been rough for farmers. Late plantings or no planting on some ground. And that will have a ripple effect later in the season for harvests. I know veggie farmers at our market are behind.

I think the oldest canned food they tested was from WWII. So say 70 years, and it did not show any deterioration. I would think if it was out exposed to the elements 90 degree heat in summer and zero degrees in winter it would bust the can.

As long as the can is kept cool but not frozen and doesn't rust, modern cans are good for pretty much forever. The exception to that is high acidic foods like tomato sauce, that's why much of that is in glass and now plastic with plastic lids.
There has been a change in some cans, it seems canners are using thinner metal and pull ring tops, they need extra careful handling or they can leak.

As far as a shortage, I buy by the case when on sale and have many cases in stock, we never run short and get great deals that way.
