Chatham man arrested for falsely reporting incident

CHATHAM – A Chatham man, who reported a burglary at his home on Drowne Road last November, was arrested and charged with falsely reporting an incident and filing a false written statement.

Joshua Vandewal, 39, reported that he had 50 firearms in his residence that were stolen. Investigation by the Bureau of Investigation of the New Lebanon barracks of the State Police determined the reported burglary was a fabrication.

Vandewal was arrested on Monday, February 5. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Chatham Town Court.

This reminds me of the idiot down here that decided to call 911 in the middle of the night to report "a man walking down the street with a gun"! Unfortunately for him, he was the only one on the street. Apparently he thought it would be kind of cool to get some commotion going. WELLLLL, when the local LE showed up he was acting suspicious, moving his hand around his waistband. The LEO shot him. He survived, and was arrested for reporting a false incident after he was released from the hospital. Freakin' moron!!
