So I've decided to add a homemade riser to the stock of my Ruger American. It's a polymer stock. I haven't yet taken the butt pad off to see how thick the walls of the stock are, but I know it's hollow.
My question is about how best to mount it. I know some riser kits make you drill right through the stock to install it but I don't really want to do that. The riser I made is a combination of the riser that Thordsen sells and the stock riser I originally made for my Mossberg (I'll post pics later). The riser contacts the stock at four points so I am figuring to either drill and tap four holes or impressions if the stock is thick enough and bolting the rise on that way....or....I also have those threaded inserts mostly used for furniture (the name eludes me at the moment) but they are the inserts used a lot for the furniture feet to thread into the bottom of a desk or dresser Etc.. So I could install those if there is enough material in the stock and it may look somewhat cleaner than just threaded holes if I were to remove the riser. I honestly would rather not drill into the stock at all, but I don't think using 3m VHB tape or Velcro will hold up. What do you all think?
