The thing that has been proven to be a game changer however is quadcopter drones. Cheap, disposable, effective. If engineers can get the sound signature and radio interference issues mitigated it will continue to change the battlefield. Imagine a country with a real budget using cheap drones. Infantry hangs back while 2000 drones at a time swarm a known problem location to soften it up first.
