It seems unbelievable that cops would be so reckless and incompetent after what's happened the past few years, but when you consider who's still willing to be a cop in 2022 it all starts to make sense.

That being said, as often is the case actually watching the video it looks a bit less bad than the description. It's not like they busted in on a guy while he was sleeping and shot him in the chest. They'd been executing the warrant for some time, removed and arrested two men, were shouting, dogs barking, sent the barking dog in and out, and the guy is fully awake, quietly ignoring police commands, and sitting up and clutching a black vape in his hand lunging forward as the cops finally bust in. The cop made a split-second bad call identifying it as a gun. Donovan made a very stupid call hanging onto his precious vape and thinking somehow the cops are just going to decide to leave without him.

Pro-tip for not dying, when cops are in your home shouting for your arrest, put your hands in the air or on the top of your head where the cops can see them. Absolutely have nothing in your hands, not even a cell phone, which seems to be very difficult for the younger generations. He should not have been shot, but this was almost certainly not his first encounter with Columbus PD and he should have known better.

In a situation where it's ambiguous whether you are facing police or a criminal home invasion (assuming in good faith there is a difference) then it is a hairier situation, but this does not look like one of those.

I think racial differences are so minor they can be ignored.

Cultural differences OTOH are the most important.

I dunno, there's 'qualified immunity' for a reason. Manslaughter might be fair but depending on all the facts we don't know loss of job, pension, certification and never being a cop again might also be fair. I would agree there's enough known in this case that the one who fired the gun shouldn't be policing anymore, since a man lost his life who shouldn't have. But the victim in this case isn't as 100% blameless as he will be sainted.

No, I'll agree the "victim" here does bear a great deal of responsibility for his fate.

But I certainly don't want that cop running around free either. His next victim might not be so reprehensible.

That mindset from Dem politicians goes back a long way. LBJ was a big fan of trying to keep blacks poor and dependent in the system so they'd keep voting Democrat. Its been working well for the Ds for many decades. Sadly, life doesn't seem to be improving in the inner cities for many of the minorities that continue to vote D.

So why was he at home in bed sleeping and not locked up before the warrants ??
