Compliant vz58 or AK options?

I have a couple NY compliant ar15s but I’ve always wanted an AK style rifle to just have fun at the range. What options are there? The only thing I’ve found is the liberty vz58 which is like 1200$. Pretty dang expensive.

SAR-1 type with no muzzle device, adapter to switch from AK grip to AR15 grip and then install a spur. But I’m not a lawyer and nobody really knows what is legal or not.

I really hate the spur type grips. I think I’d rather save up for the liberty in that case lol. I don’t need functionality Of switching mags do a fixed mag option would be more ideal for me. This is going to be 100% a range toy.

NY state police have never given clarity to any grip configuration I know of, other than they disaprove of a thumb-hole stock I believe. That's the only one I've seen give problems since you can effectively use it similarly to a full pistol grip.

The adapter + spur is what I've seen a lot of compliant AKs use. Probably because it's about as close as you can possibly get to the law as written, which is having it mostly line up with the action of the rifle -- since no one knows what the fuck "protrude conspicuously" means.

1. The NYS police do not make the laws and their opinions are worth the value of a pile of dog shit.

2. Thumbhole stocks are clearly banned under the safe act. It's not up in the air or a matter of opinion.

Having said that, If you want a good looking AK47 with all the features on it for just a range toy to play with or something to swap out when the time is right with normal mags, there is the fixed comp mag which is made to also satisfy for new york laws.

@GOYABEAN nice option, but still would need to be registered as the bayonet in integral. Still can as it's a C&R. I did. Yep that's right, I'll cop to registering a rifle. Now finding the ammo is a different challenge and the 7.62x39 inserts work mediocre about half the time.

You can no longer register. That was only allowed back in 2014.

Imo if you already have a valid C&R you don't need No stinking registration it's not like a C&R pistol that needs to go on your permit three times

There was an outfit that advertised here that made ny compliant AK's. Pretty sure some here bought them. Can't remember the name but the guy representing them said they'd make you what ever legal configuration of the AK you wanted.
