Concealed Carry in NYC

Kind of a moot point since I just moved out of state, but with the landmark Supreme Court decision going our way, does this now mean that all restrictions are void and that we can also carry in NYC now?

I tried to find a clear answer on the main thread regarding this decision, but it is mostly just 53 pages of negativity and speculation.

Nobody knows anything at this point, and the government is lying.

Theres no good answer to that right now. The ruling is less than 48 business hours old, and still has to be sent back to the 2nd Circuit to correct their mistakes. Probably best off to standby for now if you're looking to steer clear of trouble.

In a clear cut scenario - yes. Technically you can as long as you have a valid NYS PP -- if and only if they were properly following the constitutional merits of the 2nd amendment produced by the court's decision.

At the state and city level, they are still staying status quo. So NO!

I don't recommend carrying in NYC until further information is brought upon us all. If you are restricted, just keep following your permit's guidelines.

I'd hate like hell to hear someone come on here complaining they got their permit revoked.

Unfortunately NYS & NYC are playing games with this one.

However, some counties, like previously noted in that thread (ie: Oneida) they are just turning everyone's into unrestricted. So that county is complying. Which kudos to them. The rest of the counties? Who knows...

Again, there is a lot of speculation going on here. However, I do recommend if you find out that your county IS complying, I suggest heading over and getting a new permit card so that your restrictions are removed from the card itself. This way there IS NO doubt if something were to happen to you.

I'll use Oneida as an example, even though Mr. Sullivan publicly stated that restricted licenses will now be converted to unrestricted concealed carry, I would still go and get a new license (even if it cost me money) to avoid problems if I happened to be carrying in another non-2A friendly county. Say for example I got into a fatal car accident and I needed to go to the hospital and they needed to remove the gun from my person. I would NOT want to tango with that black and white on my license. It ain't worth it -- I am a law abiding citizen and I don't have beaucoup amounts of money just sitting around to play with lawyers and court dates just to get my permit back because of some line of text on my permit.

Going back to NYC, I have no idea if they are going to remove that from the licenses. I do have a friend that lives in Oneida that is going to the PP office to get a new card. If the "If issued outside of New York City, not valid to carry a weapon in New York City unless approved by the police commissioner of that city." is removed, then it will be interesting. Mr. Sullivan didn't say anything about removing that publicly, so I have a very good feeling that will stay on the permit card.

Again, all speculation, no one really knows and in as much as we all have seen and heard. Some of us are already unrestricted and I don't know what the population is on this forum on who has restrictions or not. For those that have unrestricted already, this means nothing to them - unless the NYC slogan goes away. Which for some of us, never go to NYC so that is of moot point.

Once I hear back from my friend in Oneida and hopefully others on this forum, we'll have a better understanding of what other counties are doing. I'm sure others here are going to be taking a trip to their permit office to ask questions... or make phone calls.

NYC has it's own permit scheme written into NYS law. They are literally separate permits, and nothing in this decision invalidates that.

One dirty trick NY could pull would be to make every county have it's own non-reciprocal permits.

It would probably get overturned eventually, but maybe the makeup of SCOTUS would change by the time the challenge gets to them and we might be screwed.

Have lived in NY commuting to NYC nearly everyday (or visiting family) from the Hudson Valley my entire adult life, being frustrated how 90%+ of the time my CCW is completely useless. Then less than 2 months after I move to a free state, days after getting a new CCW and all but giving up my right to carry in NYS, this changes and NY is literally forced to adopt something I have been arguing about ad nauseam as being unconstitutional for as long as I can remember. You can't make this stuff up.

Thanks for 10 years of aggravation NY. Happy for all of you, but does not feel like a victory at all to me. More like a violation.

Nah this decision came from the Supreme Court. NY can kick and scream all they want, but you all already won. There is not much they can do now as anything they suggest will not hold up in lower courts given this decision and they probably already know this.

The only thing I could maybe think of is making more training rules to get a permit but there is no way this can apply to current holders since they can't revoke your permits for not meeting additional asinine rules nor confiscate your guns. Unless of course they want another Supreme Court ruling against them.

The idea of trying to make all of NYC a "sensitive place" made me laugh too.

They can’t revoke your permit huh? They can, but the question is will they. My permit says it can be revoked at anytime.
Also maybe it won’t hold up in lower court, but remember all appellate judges in NYS have been appointed by Cuomo at this point. I don’t trust any of them.
Alsonif they give private businesses the power of law for their signs where can I carry anyway? I’m not saying I won’t, but legally it’s an issue. They won’t tell private companies they can dictate what they want to do on their property. It will get complicated fast and take a long time to sort out.
Im not being selfish, but I have a full carry permit so I see no benefit to this ruling but it will cause me trouble. Also keep in mind you have to recertify your permit every 5 years so maybe they will make you have to do the 10-15 hours of training plus live fire every 5 years. This will not go well for us.

How can you tell if someone doesn't actually know what's going on or has been going on..
