Hello all!
I'm looking for some advice and clarification regarding pistol permits and concealed carry in Saratoga County, NY. I've referred to countless articles and state websites searching for the information I seek and have been met with a vague understanding.
My question is simple: can I legally concealed carry?
The more information I read the muddier the water gets so I'll try to lay it out best I understand and any clarification from people who know more than me would be greatly appreciated.
This is my understanding thus far. I have a NYS Pistol Permit and possession of a beautiful handgun. I've read the the NYPL serves as the conceal carry permit. So if that's the case I can conceal carry because I possess the NYPL.VHowever, mine says hunting and target which means, to me, that I can conceal carry to, from, and during such activities.
When I spoke at length with the fellas at the gun shop before purchasing my gun, they explained to me that although technically my permit will say hunting and target that I COULD conceal carry when not performing these activities. Their reasoning was that IF an officer for whatever reason found I was carrying, they have the discretion to report that information to the judge who could revoke my permit. They said it would incredibly unlikely for anything like to to occur because an overwhelming majority of officers believe in defending the 2nd amendment and do not agree with the Saratoga County process for issuing "unrestricted" permits.
From different perspectives it seems cut and dry in both ways, which has brought me to you all. I'll continue to read and browse forums here but any feedback would be great as I'm sure many of you had gone through the same situation when getting the permit.
Thank you much!!
