COVID-19 turbocharges gun carry movement​

It turns out that there is a COVID-19 side effect that won’t hurt you. In fact, it may save your life.
Since the nation shut down in March 2020 as the coronavirus crisis hit, 10 states have cleared the way for citizens to carry handguns.

A movement that began in Alaska in 2003 will reach exactly half the country this month when Georgia this week becomes the 25th state to OK “constitutional carry,” meaning there are few rules barring the carrying of handguns.




The violent Black Lives Matter riots in 2020 also fueled action in several states.

Fairfax, Va. - NRA's Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) applauds the Georgia legislature for passing Senate Bill 319, NRA-backed legislation that allows law-abiding gun owners to carry a firearm without a permit from the state.

We really need the SCOTUS decision ASAP. This will help other states get on the bandwagon.

My hope is that it will make it easier for law abiding citizens to be able to get their CCW permit unrestricted. Including those of us that have one already, it should be unrestricted.

I know of some folks that have had a restricted NY license for well over 2+ decades. Got multiple handguns on their permit, but the judge or licensing officers refuse to give them unrestricted. It is sickening.

Personally, I'm all for constitutional carry, but at this point, I'm taking anything... then move forward.

Once a majority of states enact constitutional carry then SCOTUS will rule it as federal law. This is how it went with gay marriage. SCOTUS ruled against it until the preponderance of states had legalized it. SCOTUS always waits for a concensus among the states to develop before ruling in favor on such matters.
We are rapidly reaching the tipping point with Constitutional Carry. When that is signed off on we can then attack registration schemes and magazine limits. When NY is opened up to out of state CCWers the Sullivan Act will be on very shaky ground. As will magazine limits. If I as a Pennsylvania resident can carry a gun with out registration then it is a reasonable argument that a NY residents is unfairly burdened by such a requirement, unequal application of law is a thing. Also once a few out of state people get arrested for running afoul magazine restrictions and after a few trials I imagine mag limits will be ruled unconstitutional. Again based on if unrestricted magazine capacities are not an issue in other states, neither would it be in ban states.
You see right now ban state residents are isolated, free staters don't have any skin in tge game. Bit we will when Federal Constitutional Carry is a thing. Then the ban states will have the whole nation to contend with, defend themselves in court against. They won't be able to stand up against that kind of pressure.
Give it time, it will take time but it will happen.

I would like to point out that outside the NRA, none of those Associations/Organizations have, had, or contributed ANYTHING to do with the NYSRPA Case that was heard by SCOTUS, if anything they hindered and denigrated NYSRPA. Aaron Dorr has quite a history and possibly a few warrants if you do a search on him and his multiple Association.

I would like to point out that outside the NRA, none of those Associations/Organizations have, had, or contributed ANYTHING to do with the NYSRPA Case that was heard by SCOTUS, if anything they hindered and denigrated NYSRPA. Aaron Dorr has quite a history and possibly a few warrants if you do a search on him and his multiple Association.

We shouldn't be giving ANY money to ANY "gun rights" organization. At least not on an ongoing basis. Instead we should take the money we would otherwise be donating and Instead use it to fund specific legal battles. Like the battle in Washington over their new magazine ban for instance. Or to trials like the Rittenhouse trial. Our money should go wherever it is needed spot check style.

On the books, 23 right now. IIRC, it should be 25 by the July.

So yeah, the tipping point. I really wish these other states would just let it go.... but I know it's all about greed and of course power. Does absolutely nothing regarding gun violence. It happens irregardless. Look at California. Look at a lot of crap that has happened in these "tight gun control" localities.

I sure hope they jump on board. The more states we get in, the more places like NY will be cornered into relaxing their guns laws.

I know that Florida has been beating around the bush on CC. They just need to bite the bullet, and just do it.
