Hey guys, I'm posting just to get the word out. As of 4/1, the city of Yonkers suddenly changed the operating hours and days for Coyne. When I say suddenly, the guys who work there didn't know until they received the new pamphlets. Really low and underhanded of the administration. Some of you probably already know about this but I want to spread the word and ask for support on Coyne range's behalf. Also, here is a short summary of what was done:
Previous Hours of Operation:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am -10pm
Saturday and Sunday 12pm - 6pm
Current Hours:
Monday, Wednesday 10am-10pm
Tuesday, Thursday 5pm-10pm
Saturday, Sunday CLOSED
This means that hard working Americans cannot use the range on the weekends. Paying patrons are screwed as well. The administration cited safety as the reason. Guess what? The range was there before the park was built. In addition, it's been around about 60 years without incident. Cops were called for fights between parents during baseball games but never for the range. It's old but damn it, lower Westchester needs this range to stay open and accessible. Otherwise, the city will cite low revenue as reason for closing the range completely - you know how this game goes. Pistol safety courses generate a good chunk of money for the range but without weekend hours, it's tough.
On top of the hours being messed around with, the annual membership for out of town members went from $300 to $500. Westchester County closed the Ardsley and Pleasantville, I really would like this place to stay open. If you guys care and have some spare time, I'd really appreciate you contacting the folks below - especially John Rubbo. He stated that he'll take the messages and hand deliver them to the mayor's office. Sorry for the long winded post. This is pretty important to me. I like the guys that work there. The range is old but there's something about it that really resonates with me. While private clubs are a valid option (I've been on a wait list for 3 months now), public ranges are important, especially now in lower Westchester County.
