I have posted this here once before. I was parked in the bank parking lot sitting in my truck eating lunch.
As I am enjoying lunch I watch a woman walking across the bank parking lot with her head in her phone.
As I'm watching her, I am thinking if she doesn't look where she is going she is going to trip over that curb.
And she tripped over the curb ... LOL ... It was a pretty good face plant too.
Most people are so frickin' dumb these days... You older guys like me know that it wasn't always like this.
Back to the bank parking lot. As she was getting close to the curb I thought about tapping on my horn so she would look up from her phone and see the curb right in front of her. But I couldn't bring myself to do that.
No more laws,,, let Darwin do his job... It seems like I am surrounded by morons these days.

Yep, no safety gear back then, no one thought about it, not even the parents.
Your post got me to thinking about Mercurochrome. When I was a kid I would always have the red Mercurochrome spots on me.
I would install a big front sprocket on the bicycle for top end speed, place a big ole' take off ramp at the bottom of a big ole' hill.
By the time I hit the ramp I would be peddling as fast as I possibly could.
It would of been so cool to be able to take video of stuff like that back then, like we can now.
With that being said, I would much rather go back to the way things used to be. Before PC's, internet, social media,
cell phones, cameras everywhere, etc.
Life back then was so much simpler, so much better... IMHO

I think about this occasionally. Us "old guys" in our 50's are among the last to remember the freedom of actually being unavailable when you weren't at home with a landline.

I have a thing about not always having my cell phone on me or near me at different times through out the day.
I don't like being connected all of the time... If I miss a call, I will call back at some point. I don't even have a leave a message option on my cell... I guess I just like my own space. That's what I grew up with.
I still have a landline, 2 phones, and the one in the living room has a cord on it... I'm 55 by the way.
I can remember having to go to the town library to take some books out if I needed to learn something.
Now I just go to the internet to get the info that I need.
Tonight I went online and ordered some parts for my old Case garden tractor, and of course those parts will be delivered right to my door. I have to admit that is nice.
BUT!!!, the trade off isn't worth it IMHO... Life was better pre personal computer / digital age, or what ever it's called.
Wait for the uproar when parents are going to be paying fines for the kids who are walking and playing Pokemon Go. you know, the App that actually encourages those lazy gad-abouts to get off their ass and WALK.
But no, New York would rather they sit on their ass all day getting larger and less healthy.

20 trash cans!!?? That would be a feat in itself. I managed 8 with a 10 speed before I crashed and burned. Broke my ankle and snapped the bike in two.

Using a 10 speed is a no go for catching big air. The frame and or rims will not hold up to that kind of abuse.
But you all ready know that... Maybe not before the fact, but you did after the fact.
I used a single speed Huffy Thunder Road. When my Uncle seen what I was doing he re enforced the frame.
But then I started blowing out rims.
That lead to dirt bikes, that lead to 12 years of motocross racing, that lead to numerous broken bones over the years.
Turning pro did not work out for me. But it was a lot of fun, no regrets, I would do it all over again.
1979 -- I was 14 years old then.

LoL, I held the record in my neighborhood for jumping trash cans with a huffy. Nobody was brave enough to try and beat me. I got bored with the competition and started using my beefed up 10 speed. I got air over 6 cans, landed on the back tire and crushed the rim, but I cleared them. 8 was the no go. My dad was a dirt track and enduro racer. My brother and I had several dirt bikes to choose from and ride anytime. My favorite was a Bultaco 250 . That was one snotty ass dirt bike.

i used to jump and wheelie my 10 speed .. never bent a rim , just broke the rear axle at least once a month .. i would just go to the highshool metal shop and slap some round stock in the metal lathe and make a few more ..
