So here are pics of our current ''choices''...............other than a top loader . Who likes what ? Any real world use. I love the SCR. Thordsen is like riding a moped or a fat chick.........looks funny but feels good. LOL Upstate Ed's RIFLEGRIP ( top 2nd from left he is a member here) is also a good choice.....the grip is similar to what the HERA is probably like. You basiclly ''clamp'' it in your hand and your thumb sits on the formed shelf......actually very comfortable IMHO, but I have big hands, ymmv. I DO NOT have any experience w/ using a top loader MYSELF. but having watched one being used, I would rather forgo looks for performance......please don't attack me, just my opinion .Carpal tunnel has killed some of my dexterity.

I don't use any of the above but if I did I would pick Ed's or the hammer head. The reason being it only takes one screw to put it back to a normal configuration.

Thordsen, while moped-ish (lol) is really comfortable and user friendly. More than a one screw change but not by much.

I have a few, the spur , the thorsdon and the SCR. The spur is good for bench rest shooting or for shooting when you are pulling the stock into your shoulder with your handguard hand. The thorsdon isn't too bad but it sits in a cabinet after I removed it for favor of a fixed mag. The SCRs are a good setup, I use bull barreled uppers on them the ergonomics are the same as any typical bolt action rifle.

The SCR rifles I have see about as much use as my fixed mag rifles, the spur rifles not so much.

Mine are all 20 inch .936 gas blocked uppers one is fluted the others are not. 1/8 twist. They shoot good groups, cannot remember the brand of barrels though.

That BL-C(2) load is probably the most accurate 223 load I have shot. It works well in all of my 223/5.56 rifles. It works so well I stopped saving the groups from my 223s, under a dime is common place.

Neither. I'm using an AST SAFEmod to negate the mag drop. In a pinch, I can remove it with a small Allen key.

If you order in the next two hours (before midnight in Illinois), White Oak Armament is offering half-price on fluting. They have 18-24" Varmint barrels and 16-18" Predator barrels in stock, which can be fluted with standard (7 wide flutes) or narrow (12 thin flutes) fluting to take upwards of a pound off of the weight, while maintaining much of the rigidity. WOA has a VERY good reputation for quality and "accuracy" (precision, really.)

Back to the thread, I've used a Thordsen, my own custom stock (pic 2) and, most recently, two SCRs (1 and 2, a WIP.) My stock was probably my favorite, but my straight-stock LW SCR build is a close second. Plus, I'm less concerned about having to justify its SAFE-ness (I believe my stock is OK, but I don't want to spend time in court to prove it.)

I've tried the Spur, Ed's Grip, and the Thordsen.

With the Spur, like said above, it's only good for a bench gun. In real use where you'll be opening doors, changing magazines one handed, ect..., the rifle will fall from your grip.

With Ed's you have better retention than the Spur but since your thumb doesn't wrap around the grip, you still will run into problems doing things one handed although not as bad as the Spur. It is difficult to manipulate the safety even if it's ambidextrous one handed.

With the Thordsen, you get full functionality. Your grip is positive for a one handed grip. You do need an ambidextrous safety though to manipulate it one handed.

I like my Deplorastock Mk2 with a FUac-dc adapter, works great.

Epoxied bullet button. 15 minutes and you could have it back to how it should be if anything ever really called for it.
