According to this mornings report not only was the gun illegally in the household it was also, get this, "Stolen" a year ago from the car of a former syr. Fire fighter.

I am still hung up on this - why would a DA say the father was allowed to have an illegal (stolen and unregistered) pistol in his house... Why is that illegal weapon charge not pursued? Would I be charged if I had illegal guns in my house - or would I only face a charge if I took them outside my house? Am I missing something - this makes no sense to me.

The gun was not registered to Carreras, the father of the boys and the one who was killed. And they are investigating how the stolen
gun ended up in his residence and whether he knew it was a stolen gun. An unregistered gun inside a home doesnt carry the same offense as an unregistered gun being carried ( like criminals do ). Also in this case whether the father new it was a stolen gun or not he might be facing a number of charges I am sure.

The original owner, the firefighter reported the gun stolen before so he is clear on that. They other thing that happened to him is related to another incident and case and that is where the writer mixes all up.

The article is poorly written so I don't blame you, I had to read it twice.

I simply said what the article says.
Also lets say, if the police come into your house and they find an old pistol in the attic first they need to determine a few things before they can even consider charging anyone.
Not the same as having the same pistol on your person w/o being in your license .
