That argument is so patently false that it makes my head explode every time I hear it. The founders absolutely intended for us to have the same weapons as the military. And with that being the case I would argue that we should be able to have select fire weapons as well.
I've been repeating the same line about the Federalist Papers a lot lately because it's important for people to read them specifically articles number 29 and 46. It will give everyone a much better picture and understanding of why the Second Amendment is so important.

That's true, The police and civilians both should be armed enough to defend themselves.But they cant be hypocrites and say police need ""weapons of war "" to defend themselves but civilians don't. Especially if the population was disarmed.
