decapping pin

I have several different sizing dies and I broke the decapping pins quite easy. I now do it with a special decapping gun from frank fort arsenel and it works great. Anyways
would it or does it affect my sizing any? Im sizing deprimed brass . My dies are redding, wilson and Forester, I just dont want to buy a bunch pins I really dont need, what do you think?

With the exception of a couple "fat" cartridges, I dedicate one press with a Lee Universal Decapping Die to de-prime ALL my cases before they ever get to the resizing Die: weeds out Burdan Primed and you know when you hit a crimped in primer...saves a lot of ass-ache and if you clean/tumble your cases before sizing it gives the media a chance to clean out the primer pocket.
As far as Depriming while sizing, there's nothing wrong with doing that, and excepting Burdan (two small holes) the flash hole is uniform irrespective the Primer size. As a side note: I DO use a Flash-hole uniformer that looks like a long centering drill threaded onto a 8-32 Handle; couple twists and it deburrs and sometimes even slightly open up the hole, good for getting flecks of primer residue out of the pocket before sending them through the Tumber. The Lee Die is <$10 and the Flash Hole Tool is also below ten bucks. Lee offers replacement rods for their universal die, ~$5, and in thousands of rounds, I've only broker one, and I knew there was a problem, but went full retard anyway.

I too deprime with a Lee universal decapper die set up in a Lee APP press, my only complaint is I fill the tube up with brass and start pulling the handle and boom, I run out of brass so much faster than I can reload the tube!

I ended up with a universal decapper with a replaceable pin. I believe it's an RCBS.

When you wreck a pin and don't have a spare, you can simply cut and dull the end of a brad nail and get a few million cases out of that.
You will need to round the end of the nail properly to avoid the anvils pinching onto it when you decap, so expect a few iterations of shaping to varying degrees before the primers drop freely. After you spend the whopping 20 seconds dealing with that, the nail will last until you find another .22 case inside your brass, or another off-center primer hole.


A bonus for the RCBS, however, is you can stuff a small spring above the head of the pin / nail before you screw the assembly back on to the rod. Done correctly, the pin / nail will get almost a millimeter of compression as you decap, then "snap" back once the primer is clear of the brass, giving it a forceful kick off of the pin. Dillion makes a 223 sizing die with that feature, but for some reason they never released a generic version of it. Regardless, that'll pretty much allow you to easily decap at over 1 piece per second with zero primer drawbacks, since you won't have to wait for the primer to fall clear, especially if the pin gets wet.

Is your pin depth set too long? The only time I've broken decapping pins is when I hold the case as I bring down the resizing die thus causing misalignment of the case in the shell holder. When I keep my big hands off the case and let it self align, no more pin breaks. Pins are cheap, I keep a stash in my spare parts bin.
