Delaware state senator faces felony charges for loaded handgun inside carry-on bag
A Delaware state senator is facing felony charges after bringing a loaded handgun in his carry-on bag at the Salisbury Regional Airport in Maryland Thursday, according to The News Journal.

Sen. Brian Pettyjohn was traveling to the Southern Regional Education Board conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, when Transportation Security Administration agents discovered a 9mm handgun in his luggage.

Pettyjohn said he had accidentally left it inside a laptop case.

"It's just one of those things where I didn't check that one little flap
Pettyjohn reportedly has a license for a concealed weapon in Delaware, but not in Maryland, The News Journal reported.

Pettyjohn was released without being arrested after authorities interviewed him. The felony charges against Pettyjohn can carry a 10-year prison sentence, the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office said

Delaware: Senate Passes Bill Criminalizing Private Transfers of Firearms
House Bill 35, legislation to criminalize private transfers of firearms, passed in the state Senate today by a 13 to 8 vote. Sponsored by state Representative Valerie Longhurst (D-15), HB 35 passed in the Delaware House of Representatives by a 24-17 vote last month. It will now be sent to Governor Markell for his signature.

This bill will criminalize virtually all private transfers of firearms by requiring a criminal background check be performed for the sale or transfer of all firearms. Background checks (subject to fees) would be performed by licensed firearms dealers who would be required to maintain records of such background checks in accordance with state and federal law. HB 35 is the first step toward the criminalization of all private firearm transfers.

As much as I hate the hypocrisy of the elite, I hate worse seeing someone prosecuted and convicted of an action that I believe shouldn't be a crime. But trying to bring a loaded handgun on an airplane.... I think any of us lowly peons would probably land in jail. So this guy needs to take his medicine now.
