Does anyone have both an NYC premises pistol license and an upstate license?

Hi all,

I did a search and found nothing, but thought I remembered others having done this in the past.

Do any members here have a primary residence in NYC and a secondary residence in upstate NY (I guess Long Island would be similar) as I am wondering how the licensing works, specifically can the same guns be on both licenses or is one required to maintain separate pistol(s) for each license.

In case it matters, in my case the secondary residence would be in Dutchess county.

I think you can only have a Pistol permit in one county. So you would get a NYC premise permit and be stuck with that. You could possibly do it the other way around, but not sure. You maybe able to make dutchess your primary residence then apply for a business premise permit in NYC. If it's not a business I think your out of luck. Not 100% sure, but that's my understanding. NYC is complicated though.

I'm pretty sure one can have both, but will call the Dutchess County Sheriff's office on Monday and check with them.

Those are no longer offered, there are only Premises and Carry now.

First off I'm not a lawyer and I'm not sure about answer, but believe under PL400, you have to apply in county that is your principal residence or place of employment, so I don't think they will issue a permit in county with second residence.

3. (a) Applications shall be made and renewed, in the case of a license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver, to the licensing officer in the city or county, as the case may be, where the applicant resides, is principally employed or has his or her principal place of business as merchant or storekeeper;  and, in the case of a license as gunsmith or dealer in firearms, to the licensing officer where such place of business is located.

However, if your principal residence was Dutchess and your principal place of business was NYC you might be able to get two permits. Best to call permit office and see what they say. Good luck.

I had a NYC Target Permit. Moved upstate and license was canceled within 10 days. Vouchered gun with Sherriff, applied for Orange County License. Upon receipt of Orange County license applied for addendum to license for target shooting in NYC. I applied for the addendum to NYPD. It looked just like my old target license.
