DPMS 308 Question

Finished building my 308. I am confused as the lower is DPMS stamped 308, however the barrel (and complete upper I think) are also DPMS but stamped 7x62x51. To me this would mean I could not shoot 308 out of this.

Only reason I say think DPMS upper as I picked this up online. Guys who owned it were a gun store got them in a bulk deal. The only markings I or they could see are the DPMS stamp on the barrel. IT does look very close to the DPSM LRT-308 upper. If its a clone for $600 with bolt and carrier I'll take it either way.

DPMS is a little wierd when it comes to their 7.62/308 'chamberings' With them from what i understand the 308 chambers are milled to tighter tolerances than the 7.62x51, cut a little shorter/tighter, DPMS says their 7.62x51 Chambering will shoot either round.

Thats sort of the opposite of how everything else works... but hey!

Side note, 7.62x51 operates at about 50,000 cup, which is roughly 61,000 psi The 308 runs at roughly 62,000 psi Its not much of a difference.
Its majorly debated weather or not the two are the same... while they arent quite the same, they are pretty darn close and both will function with out issue.


Keep in mind like i said, take my words with a grain of salt, Honestly you should call up DPMS and ask them, they will tell you its fine, but you'll have that piece of mind knowing the manufacturer said so. Plus someone will come in here explaining the differences and why it should happen. Its a big debate.

My factory original DPMS LR 308 (24" Heavy SS barrel) says 308 1-10 on it.

DPMS/ Remington like most manufactures chamber for any version of the 308 / 7.62x51. That is the reason the commercial chambers are on the loose side possibly around 1.634 headsapce or even more. I am going to assume you got the bolt with the barrel or from the same brand.
They also do that with the bolt action rifles to avoid potential issues and liabilities.
So go and shoot whatever ammo and relax.
DPMS/Remington/Bushmaster is all the same. Same group, same factories same lawyers.
If you reload might want to bump the fired brass as little as you can that still feed reliably and
this way it will last longer. But that is optional.

I just looked at mine The DPMS SASS barrel is marked 7.62x51 and the LR 308 barrel is marked 308.

The one pictured looks like the factory SASS (upper) configuration.
